A BIG DAY

Today is a very big day.  There are those of you who have followed my journal almost since the beginning.  Those of you who have seen Nathan develop from a three week old baby into a boy.

Today is a landmark day.  Today, Thursday 4th September 2008 is

Photobucket

Today he is taking his first steps out into the big world with so much to learn and so much to experience.

Photobucket

Today he leaves babyhood behind forever and begins his education

Photobucket

In his smart new uniform and because he is tall for his age, he looks so very grown up.  I felt a lump in my throat when I saw these photos and, no doubt, his Mummy felt the same.

Photobucket

We hope he does well at school, we hope he likes it and quickly adapts to the rough and tumble of the playground. At least he has friends already, all the friends he made at pre-school.

We hope he enjoys learning because he has many years of it ahead.  Our little man has started on a great adventure today.

Photobucket

Yes, I have mixed feelings.  I am so proud of him in his uniform, I am so proud of him full stop.  This is the natural progression, this is what all children have to do.  On the other hand we shall miss not looking after him every week as we have become used to doing when he was not at pre-school and Daniel had to be elsewhere.

On Monday Nathan had dinner with us, just Nathan, myself and Mike.  I have not laughed so much in a very long time.  He told me (something he has picked up from a childrens' DVD) "You are such a good bloke, Nana!"  I read to him, he danced for me, sang to me, helped in the kitchen.  It was a very special couple of hours and I told him he is a very special little boy.  He related what I said to his family.

So, darling Nathan, Grandy and I wish you well this day as always but perhaps just a little more on this day. I know all my journal friends will wish you well also. Work hard, do your best, but never forget to have fun.  You have begun your journey into adulthood and your life will be what you make it.  What you become in the future starts here.

Today is also a special day for Becky and Dean.  Two things happen for them today.  They see their eldest child start school and they celebrate their 15th Wedding Anniversary, their crystal anniversary.

Photobucket

Happy Anniversary to a wonderful daughter and son-in-law. May you have countless more happy years of married life together.

So, on this day we wish our little family much luck, much happiness and few worries.

I wish Nathan many happy years at school, he certainly does look grown-up in his uniform and he looks so proud as well!  Happy Anniversary to Becky and Dean too, what a very special day for you all. ~~Love, Pat    http://journals.aol.co.uk/pm71blackfen/ramblings-from-pat/

Nana and Grandy will miss you but it will be even more special when you go to see them as you will have so much to show them and tell them. Maybe you could make a special picture for them.

It's probably "good evening" to you Jeanette. I'm on my first cup of coffee and taking a break from the morning bug battle.   You know it just never gets easy to see these little ones going off to school their first time and it does bring a few tears that won't be told not to fall. He's so still such a baby and I hope they take good care of him at school :)..........alice

Hope Nathan has THE best day at school today and every day after.  I well remember my young son standing there so proud in his uniform on his first day - he is 18 now and I wonder where the years went.  Enjoy every day with them, they grow up TOO fast.  Have a lovely time at school Nathan!  Eileen x

It's always difficult to see them leave the nest and go off to school the first time. When I took my daughter to her first day of school I cried all the way home. Then 10 years later I went thru the same emotions when my son went off to school for the first time. It's sort of scary to pass them off into the hands of strangers for their educational training...we have to pray for them each day.  Now you'll can stand amazed...at how much he'll learn each day.   Congratulations to Becky & Dean on 15 years of marriage.  What a wonderful family!   Linda in Washington

Hi Jeannette, yes it is a big day for our grandchildren and us too.  I have the exact same picture of Ellen two years ago with the skirt too long and the blazer just the same.  This year she is in form 3 and changes from the pleated tartan skirt to a kilt which again is too long and will do her for a while I hope say Mum. Hope Nathan enjoyed his first day. Love Joan.

My goodness it is sure a RED LETER day... I can hardly believe that Nathan is away to school....what a smart young man he has grown into and with such a good family behind him he is sure to be an asset to his school.   One sure has mixed feelings though when they go off to school.  Bet it was a long day for Becky waiting on time to collect him from school... Thank you so much for sharing your family with us.   Love for now  Sybil xx
