Been A While

Photobucket

How quicky time passes.  I cannot believe it has been so long since I updated my journal.

I have been filling my time with other things, things which had been neglected. The computer does tend to take over your life.  So, I will do a journal entry about every week or so in the future provided I have something to write about.

What have I been up to?  Well, believe it or not I went back to the family tree.  Been quite some time since I did anything with that and new information comes online all the time.

I decided to have another search for my paternal Great-Grandfather.  I only had his year of birth and the place.  However, I struck lucky.  I came up with the right name on two different sites giving the same parents.  I was then able to access the old parish register which records his birth and the date fitted exactly with what we know about him and when I saw the Father's occupation was carpet weaver I knew I had the right person.

I was able to trace the Proclamation of Banns for his parents.  After that I was able to search for the births of any further children to this couple.  It transpired that he had three brothers and two of the names tie in with family names so there is no doubt about it.  Definitely him.

I have not been able to find out anything about his brothers, whether they survived to marry, whether they had families of their own but I shall keep looking.

Sadly, I cannot get any farther back.  Registration of marriage only commenced in Scotland in 1855 and his parents married in 1819 so there would be no marriage certificate and hence no name of a father which would take me another generation back.

I put a message out on one of the boards and was contacted by a distant relative on another branch of the family.  My maternal great-grandfather was his fourth great-grandfather so I was able to gather more information on that line.

Apart from that I have been doing a lot of reading.  I did miss my reading.  Mainly biographies and autobiographies and also I have tried to be a bit more active around the house.  I need to more active if I am to have any hope of keeping my blood sugars under control which is something I am aiming for.  Much as I love journals, long-health is more important.

When I have been online I have been playing Canasta with him indoors and we have both enjoyed it so much.

The family have been away on holiday this last week.  Sadly they only had one sunny day but they made the most of it and Nathan and Daniel managed to do a lot of swimming in the pool which they had mainly to themselves.  It was a break away for them and that is the main thing.

Mike has not used the camera so much recently, he is waiting until the trees are in leaf and there are more flowers about but he was able to get this shot which I like very much.

I mentioned long-term health earlier.  Here we are almost at the end of April and May will see my appointments back at the breast unit.  I say appointments but I have received no notification on my mammogram.  I fear I have been lost in the system.  They did say they would contact me but I have  heard nothing and I feel certain that I am supposed to have it before I see my oncologist again.  So I shall have to ring them on Monday morning and find out the situation. Whether they will fit me in quickly or be able to arrange it on the day I see my oncologist I do not know.  It would be so nice if both appointments could be got out of the way on the same day.  Anyway, it is only just over three weeks to go for the oncologist.

Naturally with each day that passes I am getting a little more nervous about it. Silly really, I know that being worried and nervous will change nothing at all but people who have been there will know what I mean.  Not knowing whether I shall get the all clear.  So, my friends, fingers firmly crossed for me please and those of you who believe, please say a prayer for me.

Someone commented on my journal a while back that my guestbook no longer worked.  I checked it out and no, it did not work.  Nothing I could do would fix it so I had to delete it.  That made me quite sad.  I had lots of lovely messages in there and quite a few from friends who are no longer with us.

Anway, I have started a new one (on sidebar) and it is empty apart from a welcome from the site owners.  So if you would like to leave me a message feel free.

I sat in the garden today, actually it got too hot for me but it was nice whilst it lasted.  Tomorrow they forecast rain yet again so it was nice to be outside for a while.

Anyway, it will soon be time for the evening meal so I had best draw this entry to a close now.  I hope life is being kind to you all and that you do understand why I am cutting down.  I know I shall feel easier and happier in myself when those appointments are out of the way (if they go well).  I shall then be out in the garden taking photos for you all once more.

Have a good weekend dear friends and readers.

So good to hear from you Jeannette.  Sounds like you've had some spring like weather if the boys were able to swim in the pool.  It's supposed to get up to the high 50's here today.  It remains cold at night and sunny during the day. I'm hoping to get to the garden shop next week and get some bedding plants.  Hopefully the real winter weather is over & they won't freeze to death.  Linda in Washington state

Jeannette it's good to hear from you again, but I realize just how much the internet can take over your life. I've cut back and only write entries when I feel strongly about something or I do have extra time on my hands..so I completely understand.I hope the time passes quickly and pray that everything is okay for you.  I love going back and checking on ancestry..my SIL is terrific she does such fantastic research, I hit a wall because my grandmothers people were part of the Scotch/Irish that came over to Charleston Carolina in the 1700's. Trying to trace them overseas is really hard, but it is interesting....love, Sandi

I am so glad to see you back I miss you when you are not around.  However I sure understand that the computer is very naughty at tying us to our chairs,,,note I say the computer not us  LOL   With your blood sugars it is better to be active..so no excuses get on that garden gear, dig out the spade, the fork, the hoe,the rake, the weed killer, the lawnmower,  LOL   on the other hand maybe the computer would be a better bet !!!  Realy though please take care we will enjoy you whenever you feel like coming in to give us your news.  Loved the photo.

Hi Jeannette, Good to hear from you.  I hope the appointments work out.  Lovely photo!  I should take a lesson from you and stay off the computer.  I fear my procrastination is going to be my downfall with this current class I am taking.  My fault entirely.  Anyway, have a blessed day!

Jeanette top priority is you, your health and your family and taking care of that.  We understand.  Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for good readings on your mammogram and when you see your oncologist.  How nice that you've been able to find more informaiton out on your family-tree history, always nice learning more about our past family members.  Mike's picture of the flower is beautiful. You take care, enjoy each day.  Arlene (AJ)

Nice to hear from you again Jeannette.  I too found it rather hot in the garden today, I had a couple of goes at attacking the weeds in between decorating.  I agree about the computer being addictive, I try not to turn it on at all some days as I'm busy having a blitz throughout the house.
Good luck with the appointments, I have my annual one in June - it was clear last year, so crossing everything that this continues :-D

all the best
Freda

I know how a few minutes on the computer can strangely turn into a few hours! I've not been around much lately either, your health has to take top priority ~ if you don't have that you have nothing. The photo of the bee on the blossom is gorgeous, well done Mike! I'm saying prayers for you that your appointment will go well. It's understandable that you worry about it. Sorry the weather wasn't better for your family's holiday but I'm sure the boys enjoyed their time away with mum and dad! Jeannette xx  http://journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels

Hello Jeanette, you are so right time is passing very quickly.
I would love to do my family tree, it must be very interesting.
Love the photo, we have had some huge bees round here already.
I hope your appointments go well, will be thinking of you.
Weather here is still all over the place.  One day it's T shirts and the next day frost and -5 degrees.
Enjoy your time away from the computer.

Good to hear from you again, Jeannette. Are you working through Ancestry.co.uk to research your ancestors? Have done a fair bit of work with them. I hope you do get a mammogram sorted for you, in your case in particular it is important, I quite agree.

Here's to a clean mammo and brief doctor's comments.
My sister does the geneology in our family. Right now she is wondering how to look for Thomas Agar from Lincoln, ca. 1813-1815. He was probably Methodist. She set up a tree for our family on Geni.com. There's a link on the sidebar of my Word of the Day. If any of your readers can give her some sources, she'll be happy to delve.

Awwww lovely to hear from you Jeannette and I understand about the journal thing - you can get a bit addicted to the computer! Im doing that this morning and John is waiting to go out and now I should turn it off and get ready whilst the sun is shining! Silly to waste time indoors. Hello Jeannette,

It`s lovely to hear from you.  I`m glad you`ve managed to find your paternal great-grandfather after all your hard work. I didn`t realise just how much work went into researching family trees until Jim started on his. I`m sure Nathan and Daniel had a great time away despite only having the one day of sunshine and as you say, a break away is the main thing.  I really like the photo os the bee on the blossom, nature is very beautiful in Springtime. I hope you manage to find out why you haven`t had your mammogram and will make sure you have one before that all important appointment.  I know you must be getting very nervous about your appointment and who could blame you. I will be thinking of you and will say a special prayer for you.

Love Sandra xxxx

Hi Jeannette.  I'm glad you are reading and doing some fun things other than the computer.  I need to do that myself with the weather getting nice.  Oh, I have so many books I want to read!  You will be in my prayers concerning your mammogram, honey.  I can understand the anxiety.  Is that an azalea bush?  Neat bee!  Take care, sweetheart.  Love, Val xox

It was nice of you to pop in and catch us up.  I think it's great that you're finding out more about your family with your genealogical research.  That can be so fun and exciting, too.  I hope all of your medical appointments go well and that you don't stress too much before you get them over with.  Take care, and I look forward to seeing more posts from you as you feel like making them.
