So, what have I been up to the last few days. Well, as the sun is shining and it is warm - where else would I be except in the garden.
What a job. Due to the extended winter everything has got totally out of control. First there was the
Next came the greenhouse. I did not use it last year so it became a repository for all the things we could not find other space for. You know, "where do you want this?" "Oh bung it in the greenhouse for now". So, it turned into a job that took nearly all day. At least I was able to get my geraniums and bedding plants out of the house and into the greenhouse and also plant some tomatoes.
The pond was the next job we tackled. Whilst Mike cleaned out all the filters and the pump, I undertook cutting back all the marginal plants and taking out excess pondweed. It is a wonder the fish had room to move. I took out two large plastic sackfuls! The fish can now swim up and down instead of being confined to one corner. That all took another day.
We have been so tired in the evenings we have been falling asleep in front of the t.v. and I have had no time for the computer.
Along the way, I did manage to slice open the top of my toe on a pane of broken glass. Mike had left the pane propped up against the front of the greenhouse. I kept telling him it was dangerous with the dogs and with Nathan and Daniel visiting regularly. Like all men he kept saying "in a minute". If it heard that once I heard it fifty times. In the end it was me that ended up with a nasty cut and blood all over the place. I had popped out barefoot to water the greenhouse and put slug pellets around the young tomatoes. Forgot the glass and walked right into it or rather my left foot went under it, slicing the next to little toe. Made me feel quite faint. I do not have to tell you what I said to him, I think you will all know! Thankfully, it is clean and already healing over although it is making me limp a bit and does it throb!! It is making the gardening more difficult as well as I cannot wear shoes. The cut is right on the top and any pressure on it is agony so I have to be extra careful. One very shamefaced Mike.
Next came weeding although we have not finished that yet and strimming the edges of the two big borders plus emptying out all the tubs. Today I was actually able to start
I have not go it all finished. Everything takes me so much longer these days. The joys of getting old and it was so hot I had to keep coming indoors to cool off. I did get at least half of them done and we now have some bright splashes of colour in the garden. The rest will be done tomorrow hopefully. After that it will be heavy pruning of some shrubs that have become rather large and finishing off the weeding.
On Tuesday, after we have looked after Nathan, we start on the front garden although, thankfully that is not as much work. I shall be glad when the last plant is in situ, then we can sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labours I still have some plants on order but they will not be here for two weeks so that will give us a break before we plant them in the border for which they are intended.
All we need now is for the weather to stay warm and for the plants to thrive and grow and give us pleasure for the rest of the summer. So, four days of seemingly non-stop gardening but it will be worth it I am sure. Next winter we will make sure whenever it is dry to go and have a look and check things before they become rampant.
Now I have to disappear back outside again. I took a break but now we have to clear up all the mess from today. That needs doing before we even think about the evening meal.
I shall be back to commenting on your journals in a couple of days when we get all this gardening done. I promise that I have not forgotten the ghost story, that will be coming up in the near future although I cannot say just when. I need the time to write it all up.
Wishing you all a great week.

Wow! You accomplished so much! Good for you! Jae
Lovely graphics today ,my word you have been busy ,the thing about a garden, its a bit like the Forth bridge ,you just get on top of it and its time to start over again,Like you I hope now we can have some decent weather in order to enjoy the fruits of our labour ,Keep well ..........Jan xx
You've had a similar day to mine Jeannette! We have a large bed with flowering shrubs that seem to have taken over! At the back of the bed is a curved trellis with clematis growing all over it. We have now decided to claim back the bed and just leave a three foot bed in front of the trellis so after I mowed the lawn I trimmed back and pulled out some of the shrubs ready for when our new lawn is laid. I know it's late in the year but we have just come back from three weeks in California and before that we had so much on. I only hope the new lawn takes OK especially as we have a hosepipe ban!! I can see me trudging out with buckets of bathwater!!
Let's hope we don't suffer tomorrow with all this exertion Jeannette!
Best wishes, Pat
You certainly have been busy!! Hope your toe's OK!! Have a nice week :o)
Gill xx
I hope Mike will listen to you in future when there's anything dangerous like glass about. Imagine how awful you'd have felt if Nathan had sliced his self open on it. My son had a 3ft mirror fall on him once and left him in plaster for six weeks and badly scarred for life. It sounds like you've done well in the garden, let's hope the sun stays around so you can enjoy it. Our sun in Brighton has made way for grey skies again today! Jeannette xx
You have had a busy few days in the garden ~ no wonder you fell asleep in front of the TV ~ Hope your toe is OK bet Mike felt bad about not moving that glass ~ glad you have got some of the plants in and they are giving a splash of colour ~ I do hope the weather keeps Sunny and warm so we can all get out and tidy up the gardens ~ although to~day we did have some rain ~ but it has got out sunny again now ~ Ally
sounds like you have been busy
You've worn me out, but I had to read the bit about your toe several times, I kept reading you'd sliced the top of your toe off and Mike leant it against the greenhouse, felt quite faint myself :D
Hi Jeanette,
That made me feel tired for you! Don't forget (I know you won't) to take some

Hello Jeannette, Your poor toe, I can only imagine how painful it was. I`ll bet the glass has been moved now double quick! Well done for getting all that work done in the garden, I`m sure it`ll look lovely when you`re finished. Thankfully we`re up to date in our garden, but the weeds seem to be growing back with a vengence so I can`t sit back for too long! :o)

Sorry about your toe!! How painful! I'm sure that glass is moved now to a better place! You've sure been busy in the garden. Can't wait to see pictures of it all.
Enjoy your day!

Ouch! That toe must really have hurt! There is alot left to be done outside here too and I don't know when it will get there...the weeds seem to take over before you can snap your fingers. Our weather is almost perfect to be outside today, but I have things that need to be done inside too, what a bother. Take good care and don't overdo things. 'On Ya' - ma
I bet your garden is gorgeous. Keith likes gardening but in a way it's handy to have manky legs sometimes because I've always thought it's hard work! Hope your toe's better soon. I can just imagine what you said. Love, Angie, xx
Wow, you've been a busy girl. I bet Jack was quite a help too. LOL ! Hope your toe heals up, it's so annoying when that type of thing happens. Linda in WA
