Rain, Lovely Rain

Ah bliss, welcome rain and the temperatures have dropped way down.  The heat was really getting to me.  Not that I dislike the sun but I like it pleasantly warm and not roasting. I hate the awful humidity which makes you feel you cannot breathe.

The weather was bound to change, him indoors got his shorts out!  Then he got a ceiling fan for the bedroom.  We have had one in the lounge since day one, in fact it was here when we bought the place and has been used every summer since then.  After several nights of not getting much sleep what a joy it was to lie in bed with that fan circling overhead.  When Mike went to buy it he found it was in a sale so that was a bonus because it was reduced by several pounds.  So, what with Miks' shorts, the new ceiling fan and Becky and Dean buying a canvas sun shelter for their garden, you just knew it had to rain.  However, they say it will be sunny again for the weekend.

I have not been on the computer much because our lounge is the hottest room in our home even with the ceiling fan and the lounge is where my computer is.  We have no windows in this room, only patio doors at one end but they open onto our wooden sun lounge.  There is no direct access of air and the place gets like a furnace.  I have spent a lot of time in the bedroom where it is much cooler.

Half of my plants arrived and him indoors worked  like a trojan yesterday.  It meant digging out a lot of old shrubs that were past their best and needed constant trimming back, then it was digging over the ground and planting.  It was just too humid for me to get out there and we had thunder rumbling around all the time.  I spent most of yesterday with a thumping headache.  We have lots of bare patches now even with the new plants in but hopefully the rest of the order will arrive soon and then I am going to fill in any remaining patches with ground cover plants to surpress weeds.  I sat and watched all the little birds come down as soon as Mike started digging.  They were all over the place pickingup insects and finding worms.  They must have thought their birthdays had come.

Mike has taken the dogs swimming a couple of times only to find that Jack does not like water.  Well, he certainly does not like water in large doses.  Get the garden hose out and he goes mad jumping at the water to catch it and wanted to be sprinkled (we have no hose pipe ban here at present although we are trying to conserve water).  Get in the bath and he wants to get in there with you.  But put him in a lake and try and get him to swim, he scoots straight out again.  Well, I remember how our beloved Pip used to dislike water when he was young but came to love it.  Jack is only six months old so there is plenty of time.  Jesse on the other hand never wants to come out!  Here is the latest picture of Jack after his dip

Have not seen Nathan and Daniel so far this week. Nathan was a bit under the weather for a couple of days, probably due to the heat because he seems fine now it has cooled down.  Dean has the day off today as they are having new carpet fitted and he is helping move the furniture.  It was all going to be put into the garden but due to the rain, it now has to be moved from one end of the house to the other which slows things down.  At last they are getting their house back to normal after having the extension built and the carpet will put the finishing touch to the lounge.

That is about all the news there is from our end.  Due to the heat we did not do anything much for days.  I hope the rest of my plants arrive soon, before the next heatwave sets in and also because it will give them a good start if the ground is damp.

Now I am off to try and catch up on a few of my alerts.

Oh, we have another new journal.  Looks like it is going to be a good one.  Please take a moment to stop by and give her your usual warm J-Land welcome.  I know it will be appreciated.  Here is the link

Jen's euro-ramblings

Just as I was finishing this entry, the doorbell rang - the rest of my plants have arrived!  Guess who is going to get muddy now - but we will do them today before that blazing sun appears again.

Have a great day everyone

Our rain stopped before I went out today, it felt freezing out after the lovely sunshine! I have a huge floor standing fan but have only had it on for a few minutes, cats didn't like it!! I'm glad your plants have arrived so you can get them out before the ground dries out again. Jeannette xx

So glad the weather's eased up on you a bit.  I can't complain about the weather here in Indiana, USA.  It has been beautiful the past few days.  But, they're predicting rain for the weekend so I guess it can't last forever!

Love the picture of Jack.  I'm going to email you a picture of our dog Brandy who is (I think) one-half Border Collie.  She has a way of cocking her head just like Jack.

Hugs,
Gwynn

I hope you have fun playing in the mud...It will all look so nice when you are done !  I agree with you on the hot weather.  We had it a couple of weeks ago and I was glad it cooled off.  Now we just need rain. It seems we get large spells of dry and then lots of wet...we'll see!  Enjoy your day now that it's cooler!  'On Ya' - ma

Good to hear from you. The rain was needed, but we haven't had much here. Ron was going to mow the grass yesterday, put it off 'til today and now it's too wet. Me thinks he planned that crafty move. Well, he's not doing it tomorrow, as I've planned to get us out of here for a few hours. We both need a break and we'll have all weekend to spend gardening. Enjoy your day and post some pics when you've got all the plants in. I've got two good ground cover plants; ginger mint which only grows to about six inches, has a lovely perfume, is green/cream leaves, pretty lilac-blue flowers, will grow anywhere and can be clipped back after flowering to regenerate. The other plant is Creeping Jenny, just as hardy, with a lovely yellow flowers. In fact it's a native species and grows in on old meadow land. If you want either of the above and can't get them, let me know. I will package some plants up and send express delivery. Take care my friend.

Hi Jeannette,

Isn`t it a relief to get rid of the humidity, it was becoming unbearable.  Hopefully when the sunshine returns it will be a bit more comfortable after the downpours we had yesterday.  I`m back in my Summer trousers with my shorts back in the wardrobe, but not for long hopefully.  Our living room is the coolest room in the house with the bedrooms being the warmest.    Jack has certainly grown into a lovely looking dog, what a cute expression on his face!  Have fun with your planting. :o)

Jeannette that's a gorgeous graphic, I love white flowers.  I like warm but this heat has dwindled a few people, much better now it's a little cooler. Jack scrubs up lovely, I like the way he holds his head to one side, that's endearing.

I hope everyone keeps well , the garden will reward you even more next year, it must look wonderful with the hard work you and Mike have been putting in.........and the little criters will have been very grateful for the feast.  Take care, Rache

Your page is excellently composed using the beautiful graphics.    I have been away from the computer working with one carpenter on the current addition around my kitchen.    The last several days have been near 80F and perfect for working on my cabin shingles by myself.    I had 305 alerts/emails today so I am having to delete many.    I just clicked your journal from my pages list of journals and wanted to make sure to visit you.    Over the past year and a half now I have grown to know people well and what is going on in their lives.    I consider you and other's true friends that have made my time spent worth while.    I guess the saying that " it's not the quantity but the quality that counts " when being in the journals.     I enjoyed the photo of wet Jack and hope Nathan gets over his current sickness.     Hugs,    mark

I'm glad it has cooled down a bit.  It gets so hot here in Riverside, CA.  I can relate to the misery factor there.  I love the picture of Jack.  He's so cute with his head slanted to the side like that.  He looks like he's asking a question.  Hope to see pictures of your new plants soon.    Kathy

Hi Jeannette !!!!!!!! Here in my neck of the woods it is back to the extreme desert temperatures I wish it were raining here. I am not much of a person who can take care of plants I have found that I am more of a black thumb. My puppy Hobo is getting bigger and chewing on everything in sight. I need a dip in a lake somewhere. Jack is a cute dog I'm sure he enjoyed his dip. I have also had a little bit of a cold myself it seems to be lingering I'm sad to say.

By the way I checked on the journal you mentioned and I think its a good one. I went over and said hello. Thanks for posting it on your journal. Take care and I wouldn't mind if you sent me some of that rain. Good night my dear friend. Give hugs to all...........Byyyyyyyyyyye.

Yes it's been real humid here too.  I even have a little fan on my desk at work, because I can't stand not having air moving.  All the fans in the house are going on the low setting to keep the air moving. We've had off and on rain too but the temp. is running about 65 degrees during the day so it's not really cold.   Happy planting !   Linda in WA

I do hope your heat has cooled down some by now.  We are in a heat wave ourselves here in Virginia.  In the 90's.  We have ceiling fans too in as many rooms that hold them.  They help to rotate the air.  Jack looks so cute...but wow, he looks like he would love to swim.  We have one of 3 that love to swim.  Hope you get the visit from the boys soon...hugs and love,
Joyce

Jack is so handsome. Glad you got some relief from heat with the rain.  No rain in sight here.  We had some fluffy white clouds pop up while me and the granddaughters were in the pool and we got awfully excited about that!  LOL
Have a great week!
