Back To Normal

It always seems a bit of an anti-climax after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.  No more holidays to look forward to and long winter days stretching ahead.  Most people have returned to work and reality hits home.

I have taken a break to come on here in the middle of taking the decorations down. They took absolute ages to put up in the first place and it is strange how they always seem to come down much quicker!  At least I will be able to dust again.  I will not miss the decorations as such, it is the lights that will leave a gap.  It was lovely to sit in the evenings with just the festive lights on, so warm and cosy. Thankfully, we do have our glitter ball that was not a Christmas decoration and can still remain but it will not be quite the same.

We did see the New Year in, thankfully the fireworks were not as bad around here as in recent years.  The ones from the London Eye were truly spectacular and it must have been something to be there although how some of the people got home again I have no idea. We actually stayed up quite late because we then went on the computer and into a games room where Mike and I played Blackjack against each other!  Well, just friendly fun but we are both enjoying so much that we can play games together now and have a shared hobby.  So most evenings we will be going there for an hour.

The first day of 2007 was quiet.  We did not do a great deal.  I felt a bit under the weather (probably because I am not used to drinking and I did have a couple of glasses of wine the night before even if they were diluted with soda water).  I began reading one of the books I had been given for Christmas whilst Mike took down the outside decorations, then we just watched some t.v. and played our Blackjack.

I did have a nice surprise yesterday, a nice start to the New Year.  I won £50 on the lottery!  Bit of a fluke really.  I play the same set of numbers week after week, have done so for around two years and had the occasional £10 win.  Well, I did my numbers as usual or thought I had done.  A while back they changed the style of the tickets.  I had become so used to where the numbers used to be and did not like the new format.  Anyway, I thought I had ticked off my last usual number but I made a mistake and ticked one very close to it.  Hey presto, it won!  I had no idea until Mike came back from the local shop and waved the notes in my face.  That cannot be a bad New Year gift.

Becky is unwell with the bug that is going around so we did not see the family over the holiday although we did talk on the phone.  Mike is still suffering with his cold and cough. This bug really hangs around.  I remember I had it last year and it was a month before it really went.

Day after tomorrow we have the men coming to put in the cavity wall insulation.  I am not looking forward to it I can assure you.  It will be a good thing to have but as I hate loud noises, it is going to drive me around the bend for a few hours.  I shall have to stick some cotton wool in my ears or something.

Oh well, back to the grind.  Now I have to start putting all the ornaments back in place, I might alter some things around. They say a change is as good as a rest.

Have a good day my friends.

Hi Jeannette, happy New Year to you and all your family! May 2007 bring you lots of love, happiness, wealth, and everything you wish for. People did not let off many fireworks where I live because the weather conditions were terrible: thunder, lightening and gale force winds! Did you see the New Years' Eve celebrations broadcast on the BBC? The firework display was brilliant! Have a great day!

Best Wishes,
Leigh :-)

We've had an unusual warm spell here  and it really hasn't seemed like winter yet.  If we hadn't had all the decorations and lights one would have never known Christmas was here.  After next weekend I'll have mine put away.  It took a good 3 weeks to do and may just take that long to have them all boxed away.  I think I'll follow your example and put some of the decorative items in different places for a change...sounds like a good idea. Hope the noise isn't too bad for you but the insulation will certainly help.  'On Ya' -ma

Happy New Year to you and your family. I took my christmas decorations down on sunday. With all Rebecca's toys there just wanted any room in livingroom with the tree up and all. We did nothing special on New years. Just stayed home, enjoyed a quiet dinner and relaxed. (((((((hugs))))))))))

Congrats on the lottery!
I always feel a little let down after the Holidays. Such a build up, then gone in the blink of an eye. :(
Have a great week.

Congrats on your BIG win. Yesterday, I checked three lottery tickets I had in my wallet and as I put them in the machine, it said "Sorry Not A Winner" for all three. I know what you mean about January..it seems to go on forever.  Linda in WA

congrats on your winnings.  yeah it always seems like the anti climax and your right withthe longest dreariest part of the winter ahead it will be such a long haul. Maybe we should move our holidays lol so they break up the nasty winter and then we are more likely to have a snowy holiday lol I tell you  its a real bummer and I just wish I could not feel a let down. this one was morehecktic and les enjyable than ever before.  I dont know why. I think it was like throw the deocrations up (which took for ever this year. ) and then you rushed and hardly got to settle down and enjoy them. Well I do hope to get back into the routine I do miss it. well I hope you have a great week ahead and oh yes you are right......... they do get put up much faster than the setting them out on the decorattions. hope you all get over the bug. Todd has had it for about three weeks now

Another Christmas is past again and you can have your home back to normal.    We are still above average weather temp wise even though the warm spell is over.    Finally the sun is shining again and my back is adjusted to the change though I am not feeling like being very active which is nothing new.     I believe I know the type of insulation your are having put in the wall cavity as I have been contemplating what type of insulation I will be using on the upcoming insulation.   It will be more expensive and I will have to save money to have it done but it is extremely efficient in the long run.     The same bug that Becky has  now and Mike has had is here and I have had problems with it for the last month.   I hope 2007 is a great year for you!    mark

I switched over after watching the edinburgh fireworks to BBC1 england to catch the remainder of the london fireworks...Nice to be able to do that on sky...The edinburgh ones although spectacular was a smaller display than planned due to the weather...Boys are in respite on thurs so i'll take down my decorations then...Am full of this vile fluey cold so don't feel up to it to be honest...Well done on winning the £50 :o)  Nice start to the year   Caff xxxxx

I got my decorations down in about 10 minutes.  Weird how it is so much faster than putting them up.  Maybe because I put them up and then moved them, added to them, and spiffed them up for the next couple of days after!  LOL!  I already miss the lights, too.
Sorry that bug is hanging around you guys!  Oh, and congrats on your lottery win!  Without your usual number...funny!  Jae

I don't put up much in the way of decorations but I love my Christmas lights and like you, I don't want to take them down. I've got as far as taking down the cards and having another read of them.
Congrats on the lottery win Jeannette, I once bought the same numbers twice (forgot I'd already got them!) but 3 numbers came up, so I collected £10 on each ticket :-D
Lovely Graphic - roll on Summer :-D

H Jeannette I will think of you when you are gettin your cavity wall done as I told you earlier it is pretty bad. Howa about getting wrapped up warm and sitting in the car for a wee while if it gets too bad. Fortunatly it does not take too long but it is worth it in the long run. LOve Joan.

Thats a job we must do this week, getting the decorations down.  It always looks so bare afterwards doesn't it?  Its nice that you and your husband are having good times playing blackjack, perhaps he will start journalling too as he gets more confidence on the keyboard.  I love the picture you have posted at the top of your entry.  Hugs.  Terry x

Hi Jeannette, I too have to take down all the Christmas decorations.  Hubby goes back to work tomorrow so it will be just me and The Duchess.  We have enjoyed having him home for five whole days, and I have pretended I'm on vacation and only did a little bit of housework.  Now it will be housework catch up time.  And then it will be time to prune my roses.  I do enjoy getting my little gardens ready for spring, and The Duchess likes to lay outside and see what is happening in the neighborhood.  Do you have a long winter there?  And do you garden?  Congratulations on your lottery win!  Have a good day!  Nancy

Hi Jeannette !!!!!!!!!!

All of our decorations are no longer up at our house and our decorations at work were taken down as well. There were people in my neck of the woods doing fireworks and my dad did some as well.

I saw the London Eye on the travel channel here in my neck of the woods I wish I could have been there to see the fireworks there. I'm sure the fireworks were amazing there. We also stayed up pretty late and we went out my family and I that is. What are some of the books your reading ???

Congratulations on winning some money in the lottery. I sure hope Becky gets better soon and Mike too. Maybe you can go out during the insulation. I'm reading some journals at the moment so I thought I would pop in and say hello.

Take care.

It is sort of a blah time after the holidays.  I miss the glow of the lights after they are down also.  How nice that you and Mike are playing blackjack with each other.  That will be fun and pass the time in the evenings.  Way to go on your winnings!  I don't think I've ever won more than $2.  Hope Becky feels better.  There is so much sickness right now.  Have a good day!  Love xx Chris

Great job on your win, good way to start the year.  I love your new picture, it is very nice.  I myself like the way house looks after the decorations are down as much as I do when I put them up, weird, I know.  I always leave my wreaths up for a while, at least till valentines day.  Joni

It is nice to have Christmas decorations put away for another year but the house looks a bit naked without them for a few days.  I'm glad you had a nice New Year's although I'm sorry to hear some of your family is under the weather with a bug.  It's going around here, too!  What are you going to do with your winnings?  Hope you find something special and wonderful to buy with it.
Hugs,  Kathy

Yes, it is all a bit of an anticlimax, isn't it? But we'll get to do it all again before we know it! Looking forward to the days getting brighter!

You know I love your journal even though I don't leave a comment as often as I should' Just been back to the 18th of December and a reference to a fat arsed man in a red velvet suit. Shame, who spoilt your future Christmases by telling you about Santa. You didn't know that I go over your column again and again did you. Thank you my dear for many hours of half asleep imaginings and wishful dreams. May your God have you at his right hand the day before the devil knows you're dead.  Jim Halliday.  xxxx

I hope you`ll soon feel much better Jeannette, also that Mike and Becky are better too. I hope the cavity wall insulation went well, I`ll bet it was noisy though. The weather here today is very windy but far too mild for this time of year. The bulbs will need some really cold weather to make a good showing in the Spring. Well done on your win. :o)
