Teeming Tuesday

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The weather changed just as predicted.  It is more like late October or early November.  Dark, cold, wet and extremely windy.  On Saturday I took a photo from our sunlounge window showing a lovely sunny garden with the parasol up and ready for me to sit under.  Here is the same view taken a little while ago.  The rain had eased but you can see it on the windows.

Jesse got jealous of all the attention that Jack was receiving at the "exhibition" so we have now had to make sure his picture is there as well!

I have a few more photos to share with you.  Taken on Sunday when the weather was good.  Him indoors does not often get a look in on my journal so here are two shots of him

Jesse and Jack go mad when you get the hosepipe out.  They just love "hose" games and leap around trying to catch the jets. In this first picture, Jack's tail is like a fluffy white cloud.

Finally one of Jesse on his own

They are all the latest photos that I have. On Sunday night we sat up late to watch the Perseid showers. Well, to us they were more of a slow drip than a shower but we did manage to spot at least ten of the meteors, two of them very bright -  one with a flaming green trail and one with red.  They are so fast that you dare not blink.  Anyway, they were nice to see.

I am getting so sickened by the ever increasing violence in this country.  Yet another man has died after being kicked in the head by a group of teenagers.  They were damaging his car and he went out to stop them.  Apparently the street where he lived has been the target of trouble for eighteen months. I have to ask why have the police done nothing before?  Why does it always take someone to die before things are taken in hand.  My heart goes out to his family.  The letter his 12 year old daughter wrote to him is absolutely heartbreaking.

The wind is now howling around the house and I do mean howling.  It is hard to believe that this is August.  It has brought most of my aches and pains back and even Mike is complaining of them.

I think I shall lie on the bed this afternoon and continue with my book.  Mike knows I like historical non-fiction so he chose it for me.  It is called "Love & Dirt."  It is the story of the marriage between Arthur Munby (no, I had not heard of him either) and Hannah Cullwick.  Munby was a friend of R.D. Blackmore and Dante Gabriel Rossetti.  What a fascinating read.

He was besotted with working girls, the dirtier the better (I mean dirt in the grimy way) and he liked them to look masculine with brawny arms and red coarse hands.  He liked Hannah  to "black up" for him by covering herself in chimney soot, she wore a slave collar to which only he had the key.  She addressed him as "Massa" (master) and he had several nicknames for her.  He had various pictures taken of her licking his feet, polishing his shoes, doing her housework (she was a domestic servant) even one dressed as a man. Hannah revelled in it all and adored being his "slave".  She had to write him daily letters detailing all the work she had done and how dirty she had got!

He collected photographs of working girls in their working attire, women who toiled inside the coal mines, mudlarks, dustpickers and the girls all seemed happy to oblige with having their photos taken and the shilling he gave them for their trouble. But he had a genuine love for these women, he often helped them financially if they had fallen on hard times.  He arranged for one hideously disfigured girl to get treatment at a London hospital, paid for her lodgings and tried to find her employment.    He adored Hannah, literally adored her but their relationship had to be kept a strict secret because of the class distinctions.   I have not yet got to the part where they actually married (forbidden in those times to marry outside of your class). Their relationship lasted fifty years.  It is a very interesting book indeed.

Well, time for a cup of tea and I am going to put something warmer on.  I really do not want to turn the heating on this early in the year.

Have a good day dear friends and readers.

Your garden is so lovely!  I wish I could have such a lush space, but I gave that up when I moved to the desert.  I'm certainly jealous!

I LOVE THE PHOTO OF THE DOGS WITH HUBBY!!!!!!!!!  such love seen in them for him. that says alot about him!!!!
man we are still in week three of HOT HOT HOT muggy hazy weather. my daugther is dying for fall weather so she would welcome some of yours.

Yes it always takes a death to get something done. street work roads moved and for police to take action. I always say about restraining orders it does NOT WORK!!!!!!!!  what you gonna do throw the paper at them?????? its useless. the police are not a help most times. they have to see something happen before they will do anything. I feel so sorry for ths mans family.

Hello Jeannette,  It`s been raining all day here too but even though it`s windy it`s not too bad...yet.   I love the photos of Jesse and Jack playing their hosepipe game, Jake is the only dog we`ve ever had that won`t go near one. He loves to swim but hosepipes or even rain are a no no for him, the coward that he is...lol! You`re so right about the increasing violence that seems to be all around us, each day there seems to be another tragic waste of life, and for what? It beggars belief.

Love Sandra xxxx

I love the photo's. Sorry it's so cold and windy and raining. Maybe it'll warm up soon again and you can enjoy your lovely garden. That is so sad about the man being killed by those teens. I hope they are brought to justice. That book sounds interesting. I would love to get a copy and read it. Going to dollar store in a few minutes. Seeing what goodies I can find, lol. Emma just called me, she wants chocolates. Guess she has a pregnancy craving today for sweets. Hope you and Mike feel better soon. (((((((((hugs)))))))))))
Love ya,

Your dog Jesse is the double of my old dog Guy.  A tri-coloured Border Collie.  The last bout of foot and mouth 6 years ago put paid to his old hips when he could not go for level walks across the fields near home.  Instead he had to negotiate a steep hill up down and then up again.  It was lovely to see yours so intent on having a spray with the garden hose.  Guy loved that too. We have rain and its darned cold too!  I suppose we have had summer now Jeannette...hmmm?
Smashing photos of your pets and your darling husband...'Him indoors'....lol!  I like the sound of your book.
Enjoy it!

Those pictures of Jack and Jesse are just brilliant.  Now you have two celebs to contend with................poor little Leo will be feeling a tad left out now!

Like you, I am appalled at the growing violence in this country and how it seems that we are hearing about it every day.  I was moved to tears when I heard someone read out his daughter's letter to him and have to ask why this was allowed to happen.  Unfortunately it takes someone to die before the Police take it seriously and no doubt the boys responsible will not feel the full force of the law.  There is no justice any more and I feel there won't be for this sad family either.  Eileenx

The dogs look so great , hel;lo him indoors!! The violence is definately a problem.I reported that some kids were throwing stones at me as did our security guard to a p.c.s.o and because she diddnt witness the incident herself she could only log it, not get the police out??work that out, its crazieness!!This country is going to pot.Beckie xx

What lovely photos. I like the one of Mike with the dogs. Unfortunately this country seems to be going to pot at the moment with the "no respect Yob culture".
Lets hope the sun starts to shine again  Louise x

The pictures were wonderful.  The flowers and gardenss are so lovely--someone has a green thumb for sure!  What we wouldn't give for a few raindrops here in San Diego, California-our last rainfall was in April, and we will be lucky if we see any rain before November.  You are sounding so much better, Jeannette, and i am so glad to hear it!

Jeanette, just love seing all the pictures of your flowers/yard, absolutely gorgeous dear.  Cooler temps, luky you, in our part of South Carolina, we've had a good 3 weeks of over 104-115 with heat factor added in daily with no rain.  Your dogs are delightful.  Isn't it sad with so much violence going on all over the world, sadder knowing that a lot of it is caused by young people, makes it rouogh for all of us having to be out and about and hoping you get back safely and trying to be safe in yourown home environment....times have changed and not for the better.  Take care. Enjoy your tea, it's my favorite drink.  Arlene (AJ)

Your garden is beautiful even in the rain or maybe because of it too. Isn't it funny how dogs love the garden hose? Cute. The book that you mention sound like it is pretty deep, soul searching a bit.  Feel good...love, SAndi

Beautiful pictures.  Your garden is more like the Garden of Eden.  What a blessing to have a place like that to retreat to.  A little sibling rivalry among Jesse and Jack, huh.  Well, that's the way it is in families.  LOL    That book sounds interesting.  I'm reading "Angelas Ashes", I'm about half way thru it.  It makes me cry the way those poor people lived.   Take care dear friend..Linda in Washington state

My daughter told me to tell you that she is coming to live with you because your garden looks like the garden in one of her favorite books, The Secret Garden.  I agree with her, it is very beautiful.  I would never want to go inside if I had a garden like that!~

Blessings!~
