Well, we have certainly had a hectic week. It all started last Saturday. We decided that the pond really had to be emptied out completely. There were far too many fish, so many that, had disease broken out, we would have lost all of them. That was a huge job. Dean very kindly came over and helped Mike catch all the fish. The Koi were put in an inflatable pool. All the others were placed in various containers. Luckily our neighbour is very into fish and has many friends who are as well, so over 100 fish have gone to new homes. We kept a very few goldfish, just ones we particularly like the colours of. It was a long and dirty job but it was all completed by the time dusk fell.
It took until midnight to completely refill the pond but Dean had gone home hours before that.
Little did we know that on Sunday Daniel would be taken into hospital. We were happy to step in and look after Nathan and, to be honest, he was a joy and gave us no trouble at all. You have to have eyes in the back of your head of course. He came up to me and said "pocket" and patted his pocket. I asked if he had something in there and he smiled so I felt it and yes, he had something in there, most of Grandy's loose change! Grandy had no idea.
He was always a bit nervous of Jack because Jack is very big and being young himself, quite boisterous. However, they soon became firm friends. Nathan now tells Jack to sit or to lie down and Jack does. He also now pets him. Nathan went to the local supermarket with Grandy and picked for himself what he wanted to eat for his meals. He spent lots of time on my computer. He has his own little mouse which we plugged in. He loves to use "paint." After a couple of days he had learned how to do circles, squares and oblongs and also learned how to colour them in. I only had to show him a couple of times and then he could do it unaided. I wish I had saved one of those. I did save one of his early efforts and here it is
Daniel seems very happy to be home. He goes back to the outpatients' clinic next week. We are keeping our fingers crossed that his infection soon goes completely.
Mike and I both have very sore throats at the moment, no colds, just sore throats that feel uncomfortable when we swallow, headaches and generally feeling "not right". We are hoping we have not passed it on to any of the family. We are also tired because this has been a week like no other for us, well not for many years have we been quite so busy. Our lives tend to be very quiet.
Very sadly, Dean's Grandmother passed away last night, she was the last of his Grandparents so it has been a very traumatic week for Dean in particular. Such a shame this had to happen now. Our thoughts are with Dean and his family at this sad time.
We have just watched the memorial service for Princess Diana. It seems incredible that it is ten years since her death. Prince Harry gave a wonderful speech that he wrote himself. Mike and I both found it very moving. She would have been so proud of her two fine sons. She remains a great loss to this country. She was one of the finest assets we ever had. Truly the Peoples' Princess and with a genuine feel for the ordinary person in the street and for the sick, the disabled, the suffering. God rest her soul.
Well, I started this entry by telling you that we had cleared out the pond. We can now see the Koi in all their glory. We have taken some photos which really do not do justice to their size. To think that only two years ago they were all lessthan four inches long. We have only got names for two, the pale gold one is Sundance and the huge fat one is Big Blue. It took both Mike and Dean to hold the net with Big Blue in it because he/she is so heavy.
We all want to thank you again for all your many messages of support regarding Daniel. Becky and Dean were very touched by all your kindness.
Now I am going to take something for my throat and then have a lie down for a couple of hours. Wishing you all a happy and peaceful weekend my dear friends and readers.
***P.S. It is NOT my birthday. People seem to think it is and I am receiving Birthday wishes, very nice but too soon. My birthday is not until the 9th September.

Your fish are beautiful. I wish I could Koi in my pond but it's too darn small. Maybe I should make it bigger? LOL

I'm so thankful things are going well for Daniel and will continue praying that the dear Lord will heal him and that infection is gone. I love the fish ! They are quite beautiful and very peaceful to look at. Hope you get your rest and feel better when you awake. I, like you, lead a very quiet life and when ever anything extra ordinary comes up it take a toll on me. I'm just about recovered from the long illness and passing of my Dad, and am now undertaking abit of refreshing the house as it is long over due. I am going slow and taking breaks today which is what I'm doing right now. Take good care and feel better ! 'On Ya' - ma

I'm so glad Daniel is now back home. What about Nathan....Lol! Our grandson helped himself once from Bryan's loose change which he always empties onto his dresser top before he hangs his trousers up. Thy are funny at that age. Lol!
Your Koi Carp look very healthy. We keep Koi too. Our pond is five foot deep by twelve foot by eleven square. It takes a couple of days to fill ours when we have had to empty it. So I understand only too well what you have gone through Jeannette. We once had a heck of a job moving them from one house to another when we moved home. They were jumbo size then too.
I hope you soon get over your sore throats. Stay well...all of you!
Bye for now
Jeanie xx

Jeannette I am so glad Daniel is home now ~ and so sorry to hear about Dean's Grandmother my sympathies go out to him and his family ~ Your fish look beautifully healthy and such lovely colours ~ Ally x
Pleased to hear Daniel's well on the road to recovery, Jeannette. Well done on clearing out your pond - very colourful lot you've got in there.
Oh my what a big job, cleaning the pool. Bob's one daughter & son in law have a big pool in their back yard. Some of their fish had babies this last spring but his SIL said he thinks some of the bigger fish have eaten some of the babies. They have several kinds of fish in their pond, including catfish. I'm so happy your little guy is home from the hospital. What a relief. We'll just pray that his healing continues and he'll be back to 100% soon. Linda in Washington state
Glad to hear Daniel is recovering. You sound a lot better and more positive these days. What a worry our grandkids are. I have 7 to worry about! Love Conniexx

I love the photos of your fish. Beautiful and colorful!
I think Princess Diana had won the hearts of just about everyone around the world. What a tragedy. She would be so proud of her handsome sons.
My condolences to Dean on the loss of his grandmother. What a tough week for them.
Well, we just had some afternoon thundershowers. I had just been thinking of jumping in the pool. Oh, well, maybe later or tomorrow! Take care and God Bless. Linda (Friday's Child)

I love your grandson's drawing. He is quite the lil artist. Tea with honey helps my sore throat. Or some Chloraseptic Spray or lozengers. ((((((Hugs)))))))))))

Oh, what a busy week you have had! The fish look very happy and are probably not bumping into each other now that some have been removed. Hope everything goes well for little Daniel at his outpatients' appointment next week. Please pass on my condolences to Dean and Becky at the sad passing of his grandmother. There is never a right time to lose a loved one and despite their age, we still don't want to say goodbye. Eileenx

Ugh, cleaning out a pond completely is such a chore. You certainly had far too much excitement this past week. I'm hoping Daniel is still doing well. LOL...Nathan will be posting graphics soon. He does have a talent for art.
I got to watch a memorial service for Diana on BBC. It might have been the same one. She was just lovely and so kind. Her boys are a huge credit to her. It's hard to believe she has been gone 10 years. It's so sad. Hope you feel better and have a quiet weekend and week to come. Love xx Chris

Just incase I am unable to get to your journal before your birthday on the ninth, I would like to use my time on line to send you a birthday greeting and hope that you have a wonderful day.
I know nothing about the fish you mentioned, well-not until you enlightened me- but I was pleased to find out that you were able to find good homes for the fish could have become ill if you did not have the foresight to sort the problem out.
Ten years since the wonderful lady Dianna passed away, it is hard to comprehend where the time has gone.
In my local town, after the tragic accident, people lay flowers on the town's unknown soldier statue. I was about to take a photo of all the flowers when two young women came up to the pile of flowers and were going to place their tribute.
It was heart breaking at the time but I plucked up courage and asked the ladies if they minded if I photographed them as they lay down the flowers. We were all felling very sad and when I was able to thank the ladies for their kindness a lump came into my throat and I could not continue with my usual politness and left the scene. Even today, as I think about the sad time, I am filled with emotion.
Thank you for reminding me of a thought that had become lodged at the back of my mind and needed bringing out again. I am off now to try and find the photo.
By for now,
John.
Beautiful Pond and fish.... I also really like the first graphic on this entry. What is it, please?
Joann
You have had a long, tiring week! I'm glad Daniel is feeling better. I hope by now he's back to his old self. I'm sorry about Dean's grandmother. It's so sad to lose that connection.
I enjoyed the pictures of your fish. They are beautiful! I'm always impressed with those who have these lovely fish in their home ponds.
Hugs, Kathy
Gosh I can remember when you almost lost all of the fish a few years back. It just goes to show how much care you take of them for them to be so prolific. I've been told that the Koi are very smart too, Is that true? So happy that Daniel is improving, sorry to hear about Dean's grandmother - it is so hard to lose a grandparent. You have have quite a week, you need some rest you still are fighting your own battle...take it easy a bit dear...love, Sandi
