Just to let you know that I will be back when I am feeling better.
I am not quite sure what is going on at the moment. It all started over a week ago with a sore throat and a bit of sneezing. From there it has progressed to swollen glands, painful ears, painful sinuses, cough - feeling generally quite unwell.
The thing I am worried about is that my blood sugars have gone soaring. They should be around 7. They are in the 13's!
I was not well enough to get to the doctor yesterday but Mike went down there instead with my sugar readings and saw the doctor himself and told him how I was. The doctor feels that it could be the bug that is driving my sugars up and has prescribed a week of antibiotics (without even seeing me). Trouble is they are not sure if it an infection or a virus. If it is a virus then antibiotics will not touch it.
The doctor said he wants me to take the full course and see what happens to my blood sugars then, whether they come down or not.
They have made me an appointment to see the Diabetic Nurse on Friday, 7th December at 5.45 p.m. A decision will then be made whether to increase my diabetic medication.
You can all imagine how I feel, after my cancer treatment this year and the worry over Daniel, I had hoped for a respite, a few months reasonably worry free before I have to go for my next mammogram and to see my oncologist again. This is the last thing I needed.
So I have to wait for another whole week with very elevated blood sugars which I know are extremely bad for me. I am now dreading taking my blood, hoping desperately the figures will be lower and bursting into tears when they are not. We did request a home visit from the Diabetic nurse to discuss things but we are told this is not possible, she only does home visits for bed-ridden patients.
I am also angry. Months back when I was being visited by the district nurses, my sugars were higher than normal. I was told not to worry, I had just had surgery etc. etc. Time passed, I mentioned it to my hospital team, they just said not to worry. Finally in July I mentioned it to my own doctor. The reply I got was "now is not the right time to worry about that". Had they listened to me then I might not be in this situation now.
So I feel like a rat in a trap and feel very worried not to say scared about the whole situation. Tomorrow is December. Normally we are putting our lights up by now, normally I have written my Christmas cards. None of that is getting done, I am just not up to it.
It was last December that I first found a lump on the outside of my breast and you all know what that led on to. Now December again and more problems are presenting themselves. As far as I am concerned right now, they can cancel Christmas altogether.
I just wanted to let you know the situation and why I am not commenting on journals or writing my own. It has even been hard for me to sit and write this.
Please send me your good wishes and, above all, your prayers. I need all the help I can get.

when I do that. I just started a bout this week with it. I do what my chiro said. I take 3000 mg of vit c once every hour for four hours. I do that for four days. usaully after the first day I see improvement. by the second its gone. the next two days are just for surety. I also sometimes hit my chiros office and that always helps my sneezing and ears. almost immediatly.
Poor Jeannette ,this all sounds so awful ,I hope you feel better soon ,cant believe its a year since you found the lump ,and what a year followed ,you just seem to take two steps forward and three back ,I will be thinking of you and Daniel in my prayers ..love Jan xxx
Sending up prayers, Jeannette. The sore throat thing is going 'round here, too. Doc and I both have it, as well as the receptionist in the other doctor's office down the breezeway from us. So far my sugars have been OK, thankfully. I know how traumatic it is when our sugars are out of whack, and I can totally relate to the bursting into tears! Try not to worry too much, as that alone will raise your sugars! God bless! ~~Kath~~
I am hoping and praying you will be better soon! Linda
I am like you Jeannette. . .sore throat, coughing, chest feels full of cold and flu, swollen glands too.I am going to the doctors this afternoon and will get antibiotics hopefully. We need some freezing weather to kill the bugs off!I am sure that you have what the rest of us have and will feel better in a few days. I know how you feel. . my husband cant have a normal cough and cold without him worrying that its connected to his cancer. Its now two years for him and its been a rough old ride for him sometimes.Go at your own pace this christmas, people will understand.

I can hear how down you feel Jeanette and I can understand that. I really am sorry you feel so horrid and even sorrier that nothing I can say will make any difference. Just know that I'm thinking of you and I care.
Love, Angie, xx
Dear Jeannette,
Sorry you are feeling under the weather. I had your bug some weeks ago and it settled on my chest. The Doc gave me antibiotics too. You will need them.
As for your diabetes...I have that too. It showed itself when I was having my chemo and the McMillan nurses who gave me the chemo said they were used with seeing the steroids doing that to people and not to worry. Mine was 17.5 then
Once I came off the steroids, it dropped considerably but it still showed I have diabetes as it regularly showed 13.5. in tests It has taught me to watch what I eat religiously and now its only carelessness that can make it rise. I deal with mine for now through diet.
Short term whilst you have your 'bug' you will be fine, its only if your bloods stay high consistently for a long time that damage is done internally. This wont happen with you as once you have got over your illness you will be able to tackle it again. Illness and stress can raise your sugar levels so I wish you a speedy and stress free recovery soon. What an awful time you are having at the moment.
Praying for you.
Take care
love
Jeanie xx
I really feel for you Jeannette..........you have so many things to worry about just now. I am hoping and praying that your blood sugars do come down and that you manage to have some respite from your worries and are able to enjoy a joyous Christmas with your family. Eileenx
I will be praying that our dear Lord blesses you with a speedy recovery from your illness. I have heard from several that a flu type bug is going around. It seems to take its time departing. Please know that we all care and you are loved by many. I'd be there with a cup of tea, if I could. Don't let this set back ruin your Christmas. If all does not get done, Christmas will still come. I'm taking it much easier on myself this year. Time for me to slow down a bit. Love and prayers,
'On Ya' - ma
Elevated blood sugars are very urgent to take care of...you are #1 priority...please know my prayers go out to you, for the sugars to come down...and you to feel better. Make sure you don't have an infection somewhere in your body, causing them to rise...many hugs and love to you. Sorry, I have not been here sooner, things have been rough here...Dec. is not going to be easy for us. Love you,
Joyce
So sorry to hear you are so unwell Jeanette..We have that bug round here at the moment, and it seems to be widespraed. My husband has trouble with his blood sugar, so I sort of know how bad you feel.

I`m so sorry to hear that you are feeling so poorly at the moment Jeannette. I hope it is an infection and that the tablets help bring down your blood sugars. You`ve travelled a long journey this last year and I hope the future brings an easier time for you and your family. I will be praying that you soon feel better so that you can enjoy Christmas to the full. Take care my dear friend.

Jeannette I am sorry you are feeling so down and poorly ~ it hardly seems possible it is a year since you found that lump ~ you have had such a bad year with all your treatments ~ know that I am thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers ~ Ally x
My Dear Jeanette, I am so sad that you are feeling so bad. I think I know what a worry it is with your blood sugars as my wee Great Niece (14) has daibetis and also has celeac's and her blood sugars go all over the place at times. Especially if she has an infection or gets extra tired. My niece is pulling her hair out. When she was on to hospital couple of weeks ago about it they also said not to worry !! go to her DR. and see if Samantha may need some blood tablets or something!! She has been to the Dr and they have taken a blood test and she is to go back next week, but it is a worry. and that in itself dosn't help. It's a vicious circle. Prayers are winging there way upwards for you Much love friend Sybil xxxx
Jeannette, it sounds like the old fashion common cold. I'm not diabetic or a nurse but after working in an office with telephone advice nurses for 6 years, I remember hearing that it doesn't take much to throw off sugar levels. Have Mike get you some Saline nasal spray. I use it everyday to help kill the bad bugs and once you get a cold, it clears them out faster. Hope you're feeling better soon. Linda in Washington state
Every good wish winging it's way to you Jeannette. Aol cut me off for a couple of weeks so have not been able to read, comment or do anything online - it's nice to be back!
(((((((hugs)))))))))
Freda
Jeanette, you are in my thoughts and prayers....try to to over stress yourself dear, know you are concerned, see what the antibiotics do, hopefully they will help you. Take care, try to keep calm dear. We all care about you. Arlene (AJ)
Sending you prayers that you will get better fast and that your sugars will be able to be corrected fast!
be well,
Dawn
Dear Jeannette, sorry to hear that you are not so good at the moment. I know that you must feel really miserable. Chin up though dear one because you know we are all hoping that you are better soon. If our good wishes were medicine you'd be dancing in the street. Stay in the warm and try not to worry about anything else except getting better. Hugs, Tells x
Dearest Jeannette, You are and will be, in my prayers. Love in Jesus, Penny http://journals.aol.com/firestormkids04/FromHeretoThere http://journals.aol.com/firestormkids04/TimeforaLittlePoetry
Oh Jeannette, My prayers are with you. Seems few Drs listen these days! I hate that, we know our own bodies, if they'd just LISTEN & then act! Hope you feel better soon.
God bless,
Sugar
(((Jeanette))) You and your family are always included in my prayers. I think you have come a long way this past year, what with your treatments and the little one's scare. Holding it together sometimes takes effect on our nervous system and it comes out in other ways. Your body is telling you to rest dear. Try some relaxing things, bubble baths, scented candles, soft music. Don't worry about us we will be here when you need us...love, Sandi
Look after yourself, and I hope you are better soon
Mary

I always have you in my prayers my sister across the pond. It's lots of soup and fluids and hot tea for you. And most of all plenty of rest. Those symptoms are going around, even here in the usa. Rebecca came down with another major cold today. If it gets any worse she will be going to the doctors. Feel better soon. ((((((((hugs))))))
Love ya,
Cindy xoxoxox
Dear Jeanett I am so sorry that you are again so poorly, yes what a year you have had, I am sure you will be glad to see the back of it. The only consolation is that YOU ARE HERE with us. You are a fighter Jan this is just another hurdle to overcome. We are all saying prayers for you and wish you well. Take good care of yourself Kathie.
Hi Jeannette,
I'm sure your sugar levels will return to normal once you are better. When I would take care of a diabetic patient in the hospital, their sugars always went up. Illness, and stress will increase the sugars. We would have to give them insulin for the entire hospital stay....but once they got home they'd be able to resume their normal regime. I'm sure your readings will go down once you are feeling better and less stressed. Also, if you are stressed over the holidays that can make them go higher.
Just relax...and take things a day at a time....and I hope you feel better soon.
Pam
Hoping the antibotics work and you will be feeling much better again ,what a year its been for you ,love and get well thoughts ...Jeanx
So sorry to hear that you are feeling under the weather Jeannette.
I do hope that the infection/ virus clears up and you are back to your cheery self.
Doctors............... doesn't seem like they listen these days......which is a shame.
Take care
