Something New In The Garden

Hello my friends,  I shall be answering your questions in my next entry when I have had the time to print them off and go through them.  From what I have seen there are some quite interesting ones and I might well have to run to two entries to answer them all.

In the meantime I thought you might like to see a new bird feeder that I purchased and which arrived today.  It looks so nice out in the garden and I am so impressed with it I am going to order the matching birdhouse which is like a miniature dovecote where birds can either shelter or even nest should they so wish.

Of course, no bird has actually used it yet.  They are creatures of habit and do not like change.  It will only take one brave bird to try it and soon it will be smothered.  I do not think they were best pleased that we moved our original feeder over to put the new one just where we wanted it.

It took them several hours to even use the old one.  They sat in the trees and shrubs looking very suspicious (if birds can) but a short time ago they started to come down again as you will see.

Anyway, here is our new acquisition:-

And, finally, here are some of our feathered friends.  At least the pigeons cannot get on these feeders.

Now I am going to print off your questions and after I have sorted out the evening meal and eaten, I shall type up my answers ready for my next post.  If anybody still wants to add a question, there is still time so feel free.

Happy weekend everybody.

Your feeder is beautiful Jeannette. Those birds on the tube feeder resemble the house finches we have over here. Love the rainbow graphic. Hugs, Helen

It's great how a feeder can attract birds to the garden - even here up north it worked through the winter

Sorry Jeannette I am a day behind. Loved you new bird feeder it looks super in your garden. I bought a new birdbath this summer and it took nearly two weeks of coaxing to get the birds to use it as I did not want them to be without I had to keep the old one on the ground till they got used to it.  Hope you have lots of fun watching the birds all winter.  Love Joan.

That is a wonderful haven for birds ( as well as people ).    I had to stop feeding birds in my front yard because of the new large clear glass window in my new addition until I could get it finished and shaded so they would not try to fly through it.   About 8 years ago I saw the first appearance of grey squirrels and since then they have taken home here.    As a signpainter for many years I used grey squirrel hair brushes to make a living painting truck doors, windows, and outdoor signage.    Since then computer generated vinyl graphics have taken place of hand painted signage.    I feel I owe them for being harvested to make the brushes.   For some reason I no longer see the small ground squirrels that used to make my living quarters a home area for them.     I live in a wildlife preserve area and the appearance of the bald eagle, named because of their white feathered head when mature, have flourished in the area and I see them quite often.    A mother deer and 2 fawns enjoyed my apples and pears this year and show a tolerance for my presence as well as my dog in his pen or on the leash.   This has been going on for years.     mark

Oh my, what a beautiful garden you have, love the bird feeder and the lovely, lovely graphic.  You must feel like that queen with such a wonderful garden.  I have always wanted to have lots of beautiful bird feeders and a real cement birdbath.  Perpaps I should be putting some focus that way.  What's the deal with the postcards Janette?  I've been sort of out of the loop, my own fault, for awhile but I have lots of postcards from the many places we've been that I'd be glad to share and there are a lot of places I can get them for folks here in west central Florida.

Blessing to you,

That's a lovely bird feeder, I'm so glad the birds are using it. I takes a while for them to be sure it's not going to attack them or trap them! Jeannette xx
