Some Photos

Photobucket

This photo was not taken be either Mike or myself. It was sent to me in some graphics and is so beautiful I wanted to use it.

I mentioned that after I left the doctors on Thursday morning we had a short drive around the area.  It was bitterly cold so we did not stay out too long. I always take my camera with me when I venture out and and I was glad that I did, it makes a change for me to take some photographs.

I love interesting properties even if they are new ones.  If they have something unique about them then they are my cup of tea.

I decided to share with you today the pictures that I took then.  There are two shots of each property.  This first one built in.................well  you can see the date, I could not fit it in completely as it stands on a road that is very narrow and on the other side is a ditch and a fence so you cannot get back far enough.

The next property I chose because I love pargetting.  There are many towns and villages in Essex and, indeed, in many parts of England that have properties decorated with this charming plasterwork.   We came across this one by chance.  It is on a very quiet lane that does not get a lot of traffic, so when we pulled up outside, the lady of the house looked out of the window.  She must have wondered what we were up to!  I felt uneasy about invading her privacy so I asked Mike to go and knock and tell her that we loved pargetting and taking photos of unusual properties in general and also ask if she would mind us taking a couple of pictures.  She beamed.  She was very happy to show it off to us and waved us on our way when the shots had been taken.

Photobucket

She even took us round to the side of the property so that we could see this.

Photobucket

The last property is one of the oldest in this area.  It was being inhabited in 1440  but was probably built at least a couple of years before then. It once belonged to the Earl of Warwick.  Although the windows seem to look covered as if they have paper over them, they are, in fact, lace curtains.

Photobucket

Can you imagine the history this place has seen - 600 years of it, countless monarchs, the plague, the great fire of London, world wars.  Far too much to mention.  It is wonderful to know it has stood firm through all these centuries and through countless troubles and is still being inhabited today.  I would love to live there.  From the other side, it looks completely different.

I wonder if a ghost or two wanders its corridors!

Photobucket

I hope you have enjoyed seeing these photos.  Oh, I did get one more tranquil picture just as the light improved.

Photobucket

I meant to mention before that Daniel had his follow-up appointment at Great Ormond Street last Wednesday.  They are very pleased with his progress and how the wound is healing and do not want to see him again for two months. Great news.

Wishing you all , dear friends and readers, a great weekend.

Thank you for sharing those lovely old homes with us.  Each one is unique and very much a treasure .  It is amazing to think they have endured so many years.  I think of my old house built in 1921  and  I thought it was old. It is so good to hear the news of Daniel's recovery!  Thank the dear Lord for His many blessings to us.  'On Ya' - ma

Thank you for posting the photographs...........the scene shots look so tranquil.  I have never heard of pargetting, so it was good to see it for the first time and extend my education!  Glad to hear that Daniel's follow up visit went so well and hopefully in time, he will be discharged completely.  Eileenx

Loved the pictures of your area.  The houses there I know are older but they are so quaint and I love what they did with plaster, never heard of that before.  Sounds like you had a nice day.  Good news about Daniel, I bet your worries are lifting.  Joni

Glad to hear that Daniel is on the up! :-D

What lovely photos Jeannette, well done to Mike (who I assume took them?)  Yes that pargetting on the bungalow is superb.  I love houses - my favourite TV progs are 'Property Ladder' and 'Grand Designs'.   My Victorian cottage is 110 years old, I would love to own an art deco house though - did you see the one that was re-furbished in last night's 'Property Ladder'?
A really nice entry - look forward to more of the same. :-D

all the best

Oh what great pictures. I love the history that could be behind these two homes...can you imagine the 1400 house as an author telling its stories? So glad that the little one is coming through everything in a good way...love, Sandi

Hi Jeannette,
I really enjoyed your pictures! You have such rich history in your area and it's amazing that the buildings still stand like monuments of that history. I hope you get out again and can share more with us as your health permits.
Glad Daniel is doing well, too!

Hi Jeannette, I absolutely adore your photos.  They're pictures of England that I just dream of visiting some day.  It's just how I picture it.  So full of history.  I could just keep gushing!  I hope you all are doing well and I look forward to more of England!  ;)  Blessings, Linda

Oh, Jeannette, you've made me homesick for places I have never been.  I so long to see the beautiful English countryside that you photograph so beautifully.  Just think, the last house was lived in 50 or more years before my country was even discovered!  My ancestors were from England,  Ireland, and Wales.  So I think these places are still in my blood.  Maybe someday I will see them.  But till then,  keep on snapping pictures,  if only for me.  But I know others feel like I do.

What interesting houses!  I often feel a bit intrusive just taking photos of anything at all if other people happen to be there.  That's why we sold our vid camera - I never wanted to take any footage in case there was anyone about who didn't want to be filmed!!  Your photos are lovely though;  not just these ones, they always are.
love, Angie, xx

That is wonderful news about Daniel!  Praise God!  I love all the photos.  I bet there is a ghost or two in the corridors of that old place!  I love the architecture in England.  It is so beautiful.

Your pictures are wonderful, I could envision sitting along the stream, daydreaming in the first one.  The houses you photographed are lovely and I was thinking the same thing about the very old house, I wonder if any spirits have taken up residence.  I love old places and the history behind them - oh if only those walls could speak ~ what a tale would be told.  Wonderful news on Daniel.
