This is my Hibiscus plant in bloom. I wish the English climate would allow for these wonderful plants to be grown outdoors.
Mike and I had a nostalgic afternoon yesterday. He had gone into the loft to look for something he wanted and he came across an old wooden box we had forgotten about that had not been touched since we moved here. He brought it down. We opened it not knowing what to expect. Inside we found some treasures. Not treasures in the monetary sense but treasured memories.
There were all the congratulations cards we had received on the birth of Becky. The first thing we noticed was how much nicer the cards seemed to be then. I do not know why they just seemed better. We went through them one by one. We found one from my Nan who died just three months after Becky was born. We came across names we actually could not remember. They must have known us, we must have known them. They congratulated us, they looked forward to seeing Rebecca, but we could not place the names nor put faces to them. Strange how people can play such a large part in your life and then leave it. We pondered a long time on who they could be and wondered what happened to them.
We found Mike's driving permit from the R.A.F. and other military things, the announcement of our engagement in the newspaper, in memorium notices for his Dad, identity cards and ration books from WW2 and my old Pianoforte Grade 3 exam results. That got us talking about our past and Mike telling me what he remembered about the war, various houses he had lived in and I talked about things from my childhood that he did not know.
It was both a happy experience and a sad one, knowing that so many of the people that had written those cards were no longer with us. However, we were both so glad to have found it and relive old memories. It made for a golden afternoon.
We came across quite a few old photos as well, family and friends. I am going to leave you with one and now you can all guess - WHO is it?

Hummm, I wonder if it's your father going by the long socks or then again it might be your hubby. I love the hibiscus. I have three hibiscus. Two are just alike and makes big bushes every summer and one is smaller & is a different color . Mine are the single bloomers LOL. When they bloom this summer I will post some pic's. Sounds fun going down memory lane. Helen
rationbooks??? wow! very cool!Once during the war my mom ate an entire stick of butter, much to my grandmothers horror , as it was a rationed item and a very precious commodity!
I don`t know.....is it Mike ? Isn`t it nice when you come across this boxea that have been packed away. Like you say the `baby cards` WERE much nicer then, they are all much of a muchness these days, and yes, some of my two`s cards were signed by people I don`t recall...they must have been friends or acquaintances and some point ! Pretty flower :-) Sandra xxx
I love looking through old cards and momentoes. I keep cards and things I consider special - J's first shoes, a lock of hair from his first hair cut etc.
I'm guessing that it's Mike in the photo, but I have a sneaky suspicion that that would be too easy! Is it your Dad, or your Grandfather maybe?

Is that Mike as a school boy? LOL I love the uniform and cap!
Hi Hon, gorgeous flowers. I know how much fun you must have had going through that treasure chest. I did the same thing when we moved here; came across some old sealed up boxes . Going through them filled us with pleasure. Hope you're doing alright today. I know it is hard. Keeping you in prayer. Hugs. Barb
Does Mike know you have posted that photo? It's great! (and the hibiscus).

Is it Mike by any chance?? Lovely photo!! I love looking at past things. A while ago my mate brought some of my old stuff round and there were all these letters she had written to me. It was such a laugh reading them :-)
Hi Jeannette,
Beautiful photo...love the color! What a treasure chest you had, now it makes me want to go check our boxes stored away safely.
The little boy is so cute, but have not known you long enough to know who it could be...but from other post, they all say Mike! You have a wonderful day! Joyce
Love the Hibuscus. Just bought me two for my circle garden. This is my first time trying them. I had no idea one got so many blooms from one plant, guess I forgot cause I used to have them in South Florida. . I love your story about finding the treasure chest you had tucked away for, possibly this very day you found it. Didn't it just seem to fit like an old shoe? We don't have an attack but I have a back room I've got to start sorting through. Maybe I'll wait for my husband and a rainy day so he and I can have some sharing time like you did.
