I am not particularly happy today despite the bright sunshine. The "cold" I picked up from him indoors has now gone to my chest just like it did with Mike. I felt so ill this morning, non -stop chesty cough which is producing very nasty stuff, head like a balloon, pains in both ears, throat still sore and the whole thing is playing havoc with my BG's. So I decided to ring the doctors as I think I may well need antibiotics.
I get the "bitch". There is always one receptionist who treats you like you are something stuck to her shoe. I explained my situation. She then informed me that both partners in the practice have gone on holiday - yes both at the same time!!! and they will not be returning until next week. The only doctor on is a brand new locum who only started last week and who obviously knows nothing about any of the patients and their history.
I reminded her of my circumstances and how difficult it was for me to get there but in this case, I felt too unwell anyway to even attempt it (I have a temperature and my legs are like jelly) and asked if the locum could check my records and prescribe the antibiotic that I can take because I was extremely worried about the effect on my BG's. She told me that was not possible. I would have to make an appointment. But then she says, we have no appointments left this week due to the shortage of doctors!!! I was informed that I could go down there at 7.30a.m. tomorrow and queue in the freezing cold in the hope there might be a cancellation. Failing that, I would have to go down every morning at the same time and do the same thing and hope to strike lucky. I told her, forget it, if I get any worse I will just have to call the doctor out for a home visit. So much for the Health Service.
On the other hand, I have had lots of baby photos coming in. I know one person is sending this evening so I am holding off doing anything with them for the time being. Many more people took part than I anticipated so my original idea of how to use them has fallen by the wayside but I will come up with something in the next couple of days.
On a positive note, my six week battle with a t.v. shopping channel to come and collect a faulty item has at last paid off. It took endless telephone calls (I think the call centre is in India) Collection was promised but never happened and this on several occasions. Hurrah, a large van at last turned up to retrieve it. Now I am hoping I do not have any hassle trying to get a refund.
Oh well, lunchtime. I am worried about eating now and how high it will put my BG's but still have to eat. I guess worrying about it will not help.
Thanks to those who visited the journal I recommended. It is very good and deserves more readers, so for those who missed it I am posting the link again
We never did get any more snow. Mike was all set to go out with the camera so he is disappointed.
Hope you are all having a good day.

Jeannette, so sorry that you feel down in the dumps today. Those bad colds and chesty coughs really do make you feel low don't they, and they are always worse than they sound. A cold, doesn't sound too bad, but it sure makes you feel awful. Last thing you need is the 'bitch' receptionist at the doctors. She really expected you to go and wait outside for an appointment, when you just told her how terrible you feel? Ridiculous that both partners went on holiday at the same time too. If you need the Doctor, you will just have to call one out for a home visit, as you said. Take care my dear.

I hope you feel better soon, Jeannette!
Oh, Jeannette, I am so, so sorry. How terrible that two doctors would take a holdiday at the same time. Why would they do that?????? That is terrible!! I will be praying for you constantly...I mean constantly, my friend! I am so sorry you have had the rigamarole with the receptionist. That only makes things worse. I don't want you to go and stand in a line in the cold. That sounds awful!! Stay warm and tight and be good to yourself, love!! I am hoping I can find that baby picture today! Love you so much!! xox
These doctors receptionists make my blood boil. We have a "bitch" too. She has all the charm of Saddam Hussein. IF you do manage to get appointment sometime in the next fortnight she talks as though you should be grateful to her ! To make things worse our surgery has a policy stating that if you are rude to the receptionist it can result in losing your place on the doctors list ! So we daren`t argue back. It`s total disgrace, I don`t what the NHS is coming too. As for your doctors having holidays at the same time...well they obviously haven`t put much thought into it all.... I do hope you feel better very soon, Jeannette. Love Sandra xxx
I wish you had a better medical situation mine is perfect.

Sorry that you are not feeling well during my first visit. That just tells you that I did not give you what you have. LOL. You are my first UK blogging contact. I am fortunate enough to be friends and acquianted with many British people while I was living in Hong Kong. I loved them! Cheerio!
Sorry your ill Jeannette, very bad of two doctors being off at the same time, if one wasn't planned then there should be two locums. Hope it dosen't get much worse. xxR
When ever I ring the doctors I ask for a home visit~reception lady always snootily asks "Can you manage to get here?" Works every time! I get the appointment I need!Oh yes, having a lovely day.Been to Tesco ,done the washing (only use Surf lol) and keep hopping on my p.c in between!
I do hope you get to feeling better Jeannette and I hope that you can get a some type of appointment before next week. I will keep you in my prayers Jeannette. God Bless You My Friend
{{{Jeannette}}} Sorry you are feeling so poorly. It does sound like a sinus infection or something equally antibiotic worthy. Do you folks in the UK have the ability to just go directly to a hospital emergency room? Here you can just go there and wait to be seen. Especially if your own doctor is unavailable and your condition is getting worse.
I really hope you feel better soon...

SO SORRY TO HEAR THAT YOU ARE NOT FEELING WELL I WILL KEEP YOU IN MY PRAYERS GOD BLESS KELLEY
I am sure the other entrants, like me, look forward to your collective photo entry Jeannette. Please get well first though - your health is more important at the moment. Thinking of you.

Mmmmm.....like I said in someone elses's journal doctors receptionist's have far too much power. They're all like that!! Hope you get things sorted though :-)
I guess that cold virus has traveled clear across the Atlantic Ocean. The cold I had sounds just like what you described. I came down with it one week before Christmas and after 3 weeks it finally subsided. Not only was I very stuffy and congested, but I felt so awful some days. I just wanted to stay in bed and sleep. Feel better soon, my friend.
