The Mysterious Hole In The Ceiling

So, what is the hole in our ceiling? It is the hatch in our hallway that leads to the loft, a place I never go because I cannot climb the ladder.  A strange place that takes your possessions.

Why is it mysterious?  Well, it is something of a black hole, a strange other universe. It eats things!

We have lived in several homes and never had any strange goings on with any loft as we call them. We have always put things there and there they have stayed. This loft is different. This loft has strange powers. This loft spirits your belongings away.

Over the twelve years we have lived here we have put many things up there, safe and sound. Only one problem, when you want them again and go to get them, they are nowhere to be found.  They have vanished.  We have our own "triangle" here.

Two years ago, at Christmas time, him indoors put away two ornaments, pretty ones of ladies in Victorian clothes. He wrapped them up carefully in newspaper and placed them in a box clearly marked ornaments. After Christmas they were not in the box, he searched everywhere. Nothing. This Christmas when getting the decorations down, there they were in a box of tinsel, unwrapped, just lying there although they had not been there the previous year! Where had they been during those two years, what had they been up to?

This year, we have again lost two ornaments, crystal ones. I was very particular that they were placed near the loft hatch so we could get them down again straight after Christmas. They live on my television and are important to me.

Today, Mike is taking down all the Christmas decorations, so I asked him to get me the crystals.  They have disappeared. He remembers wrapping them and putting them up there, now they have vanished. Will they turn up this year, next year, sometime, never?

Do we have someone invisible living in our loft who is setting up their own home and picking the things that appeals to them most?

Over the years we have lost books , papers, photographs, wind -chimes, a variety of ornaments, rugs, curtains,  photographic equipment.  All manner of things.

So, we have a black hole in our house. Things enter there never to be seen again or to turn up years later somewhere else. Some are never found.  Where do they go? It is a mystery to us. Even the family joke and warn us not to put things up there or they will be lost without trace.  I am, at present, reading a horror book by Graham Masterton about “something” that lives in an attic. As I was reading I thought yes, that sounds like us, something must be living in our attic as well! Maybe this “it” has our keys which have never been found. At least we have new keys now and hopefully will be able to keep them in our clutches.

So, dear readers, if you have something you are sick of, something you want to be rid of, something you no longer need, send it to us. We can be absolutely certain to lose it for you, as long as we put it up there!

We thought we were the only ones with a loft like that....Rob put our electric blanket up there, near the hatch for easy retrieval and it is not there! H had also been searching for a foot pedal (for an amp) up therte for ages, could not find it and then, when he was searching for the blanket, the foot pedal mysteriously appeared (in a bag) where the electric blanket should be! Yes I do believe the lofts are a third dimension in space!

Hope you are feeling much better by now. We have one of those ladder things to go up into the attic but don't have anything up there. Jeannette I wonder if one of those ghost you have told us stories about has come to live with you LOL. All that sounds likes very interesting. But go ahead and tell us some more, I love them.
Hope Mike can check back in a few days and the missing items will have come back. Have a great day! Helen

Really enjoyed your entry today I think I have a loft like yours but maybe not quite as bad.  Stuart put my playstation and games in a green Safeways basket and he went up to look for something else for me yesterday (slow cooker) which he did not find and I asked him where my playstation was and it has disappeared along with the green basket.  Maybe it is in your black hole and they are joined by a tunnel. Did find my slow cooker in a cupboard in the kitchen. Love and take care Joan.

Hi Jeannette,  how odd....perhaps your Victorian ladies climbed out for a dance and couldn`t find their way back to the box!  If we had a loft like yours it would be one way of disposing of anything we didn`t want, infact, the more I think of it the more interesting it gets.  Do you think it might get rid oif people you don`t like....????  :oD

Hello Jeanette hope you are feeling better now, I'd like to take down Christmas decorations as soon as New Year has gone but hubby insists we wait until 12th night! I am taking the cards down tho as its my birthday on Thursday and I want to put my cards up. We also have an attic that eats things, I am in the same position as you, in that I don't often venture up the ladder, and I have my suspicions that its something to do with the bloke on the ladder!  Often times they are things that he considers 'rubbish' and therefore get lost. Its just my fancy tho, I'm sure. There's just too much up there. Happy New Year to you and yours.
From Pam.

I think my whole house is like that !  I spend more time in the research department than anywhere else.  I usually blame it all on the lack of organization around here.  When the babes were at home I could blame it on them, now it's just me and the critters, so who's left ??? It's either my fault or it could be that I have a 'grimlin' in the attic too !  I won't have to send anything to you as it all disappears here on it's own.  ha ha !  'On Ya' - ma

Jeannette,
My whole house is that way! I have things that will just disappear! Sometimes I'll get them back, and other times I'll never see them again! I've had my reading glasses taken, and I haven't gotten them back yet! I keep asking to have them back! No luck so far, :o) Good luck with your mysterious hole. :o)

Happy New Year Jeannette :-)
Your loft sounds like an odd place.  It sounds like you must have a ghost who is enjoying moving your things around.

How interesting.  I wonder if you were able to get up there if you would discover anything, since you seem to have a gift with the spirit world.  It sure would be interesting to find out!

sounds pretty strange to me. If it was my home,  I'd be blessing that attic and the rest of the house too. I seen in a comment some one wrote you, that you are into the spirit world? One must be so careful with all that Jeanette ;as God so speaks in his word to us.

Sounds spooky...this could be a Halloween story Jeannette. My Grandmother use to have things like that happen to her in EVERY house she lived in.

I do have a boyfriend that I would like to "get lost" .... can I bring him or send him to you? hehehehe

Love your story...so interesting my dear.
Love and Hugs,
Sharon

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ!

I believe you meant for this to be an entertaining story rather than be something too serious, but I just wanted to add this comment just in case.  Demonic powers, evil entities, spirits of physics, sorcery, divination, witchcraft, etc are a very serious matter and getting involved with these things will cost you your soul.  And if anyone is haunted by some kind of demonic power, then there is deliverance and salvation in and only in Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to destroy the works of the devil and set us free from demonic spirits.  So there is salvation and deliverance in Christ Jesus if anyone reading this really does feel haunted by some kind demonic spirit.

God Bless

Hello again Jeannette..........This sounds like a great mystery. Perhaps you have a lovely spirit who is enjoying seeing your things........Perhaps you might want to leave a note for the spirit just to welcome them. I'm sure its nothing bad so don't worry.

By the way what is the name of the book you mentioned. I think I would want to read it. If you could post the name of the book by Graham Masterton I would like to read the book and tell you what I think of it.  Thanks...........

Dear Jeanette,
I look forward very much to reading your journal.   Having recently been through a hard time both at work and especially at home I find it comforting to share your life through your journal.   It makes you aware that somewhere out there, normal, nice and caring people still live happily.   I hope the grumpy person finds someone to make him  less grumpy.   Have a wonderful 2006 and I hope your back will soon be better.

The comments you are getting are as intriguing as your fabulous story!!   I was going to say that gremlins could be at work.     However, that may mean my soul is in jeopardy, and I do not want anything to relate me to being demonically possessed.   So that leaves me in a quandary.   Some of the comments are suggesting than there are people they would like to send.   Now, that is what I would like to do.    However, I would not do that to someone I like and admire, even though the end result would be "poof" or in literary terms "out darn spot" lol  Can you tell that my fondness for using spell check is at a peek?   I am the kind of writer that has found the dream come true, thanks to spell check!    Well, it is back to reading literature that will expand my knowledge of history and world government.    Just maybe I will find a lodgical explanation to these vastly perplexing ideologys.   lol   mark

How interesting you attic my dear.  Is that anything like the socks that go in the dryer and when you take all the wash out you can't find the other pair?  So many strange coincidences in this life and it seems even more strange things happen over there in the land of Harry Potter.  At least your not seeing anything, or are you????? LOL

We have exactly the same thing going on in our loft, I'm currently looking for some cut crystal glasses, only used on special occasions. We had our old dining room extension demolished and rebuilt in the summer. Everything was packed in boxes and went up in the loft. The glasses have not been seen since and they are just the latest in a long line of missing objects.
