Little Cat, Big Jungle!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Today is Leo's first day out.  He looks so small and lost out there but he is into everything.  Because he was so little when we got him and there are no other cats in the house for him to copy,  I am certain he thinks he is a dog. We always had more than one cat and they taught each other. Anyway, he follows Mike and myself around the garden, he follows the dogs, he shares their dinners out of their bowls and they do not so much as growl at him!  He only ventures about halfway down the garden at the moment.  How amazing it must be to him, what a big world it is out there, so much to learn, so much to play with.  He has been coming in and out by himself all morning and what a relief it is to us to be able to have the back doors open now.  We have had some very warm days when we longed to open them but did not dare do so in case he got out before his injections "took".

I followed the Old Wives' tale of buttering his paws about an hour before he went out.  My Grandmother always did it, my mother did it and I have carried on with all our cats.  It is supposed to ensure that they always come home.  We gave him about half an hour to lick it all off and then outside he went.

As you can see, he is fascinated by the pond and the fish but has made no attempt to try the water or catch anything.  He saw the dogs being bathed a while ago, heard the taps (faucets) running and when they shook themselves he got wet as well so maybe he already knows that water is not for him.

I am glad he was able to go out this morning because theyhave forecast heavy rain and possible thunder later on.  Our barometer has fallen back to storm.  However, it has done that in the past and we have still escaped it.

Him indoors started painting the outside of our sunlounge yesterday. It is in dire need, in some places it is down to the bare wood because it has not been done for a few years.  He is continuing in a minute after he has finished his lunch and had a cup of tea.  I took the opportunity to sit outside with him, topless again of course and nicely pointed out where he had "missed" bits  of paintwork.  However, I can assure you that this is not me!

Topless I may have been, but discreetly so and can you imagine me twined around with flowers like one of the main characters in "Lady Chatterly's Lover"?  Would not do me any good anyway - Mike is no "Mellors" lol.

Becky phoned.  They are having a good holiday in Somerset and they return on Friday night.  It will be so nice being able to see the boys over the weekend.  It has been such a long time since they have been able to spend time here because of my treatment.  I could not risk picking up a bug from either of them.

They have been swimming a good deal in the pool, been on the beach, had fun on lots of the rides and have seen a couple of shows especially for children.

Well, I suppose I had better stop writing now and go and tackle some housework, not that I am doing a great deal yet, just general tidying.  Have already started on my third book, yes I am a quick reader.  Just finished a biography on Stewart Granger and I am now reading the autobiography of Rolf Harris.  I might sit in the garden again later reading and, as someone commented on my previous entry, let "the girls" out again, providing the rain keeps off but that would mean watering all the plants. You can't win can you?

Hope you are all having a good week.

Love,

I had to laugh about the kitten eating from the dogs dishes.  Our Mitzi seems to know the brat cat is well a cat.  She will give her a lil warning growl and then nudge herself inbetween.  I think brat cat is only playing.  I eventually put just a few pieces of the dog food out for her and she is content.  They are fun to watch in the mornings because they chase one another, lol.  I'm running late for work, my sister called and needs me to do an unexpected errand for her - so here I wait.  Hope you have a wonderful day!

I enjoyed the Leo pix lol.  He is a cutie.  We are enjoying our two kittens here but have decided they will be indoors only cats.  We still have certain sections of our house with doors shut to keep them out but hope to get those rooms kitten-proofed soon so we can move through the house more easily.
I think the daisies are cute lol.
loving you

Hi Jenette lovely photos of Leo exploring the ouside world at last.  I had never hear of the buttering of the paws. When they first fenture out you are bit afraid that they wont come back, so putting butter on his paws is a great idea.  Glad you are feeling up to doing a little housework. Take care Kathie.

What a big, big world for little Leo to explore!  Glad to hear that the boys and mum and dad are enjoying their holiday.  Eileenx

I've never heard of buttering their paws!  How interesting!!  My cat would ignore the outdoors and go looking for more butter...LOL

I bathe my cats in the sink.  Only one dislikes it.  The other sits and pretends she doesn't like it, but I think she secretly does.

big hugs as always..

Leo , the adventurer , is so cute. I'd never heard about buttering the paws.  My two always stay inside with the exception of she who has 1000 lives who sneaks out whenever.  I always catch her and put her right back in.  Glad you are having a good airing out.  That fresh air is a great thing.  I'm so glad it's summertime for you.  Take good care and don't overdo and the same to your hubby doing that painting.  'On Ya' - ma

The world is a very big and interesting place for Leo to explore. I think it is something that cats never grow out of even when they get old. Our last cat Paddie got herself in to so much trouble over the years because of her curiousity. ...lol!  We`vejust had a big storm and very heavy rain. It certainly has cleared the air, at least for a while.

The buttering of the paws is new to me, but we never had any trouble with our cat coming back.  I will try it if I ever get another cat.  He is so cute, I'd love to have a pet, but Floyd says no right now, we want to travel and deer take care of themselves.  Sounds like you are feeling a little better, I'm so glad.  Joni

Little Leo is such a darling.  I wonder if he thinks he's a tiger out in the jungle when he's romping in the yard.  What an adventure it must be for him!

Hello Jeanette, you sound like you've had a good day. My grannie used to butter her cats feet, she used to say that by the time they'd licked it off they'd forgotten to roam off. I'm not so sure myself though. I've been lucky with my cats they just laze around the garden. We've had some heavy rain here, but no thunder as yet, but its cooled it down a bit too much now, its gone quite chilly. My little boy Adam who's seven just came in and saw the pictures of Leo, and for the last ten minutes all I've heard is oooh and ahhhh and oh look at that one, and I've had to find your other entries of Leo and the dogs and the rabbits!!! I think you've found another friend Jeanette!!! Anyway I've rambled on too much, I'd better go. Take care Jeanette.

Leo is a fascinating cat ... he must keep you both amused for hours.  I hope he enjoyed his fresh air and that he keeps near to home.  My mum always buttered our cats paws too and I have done it when we have moved.  We can't let our Spotty out here as the traffic is so bad and we are worried he'll get run over.  He will be our last cat as I can't bear the litter tray! Glad to hear you are getting the sun to you still and I loved the picture of the lady with the flowers, you are funny.  Hugs, Terry x

Hello Jeannette,
Only just got round to reading my emails and I should be in bed!  I had to write to say how much I enjoyed this entry, from the photos, to 'the girls' and also hearing about Becky, Dean and the boys enjoying their holiday, haven't they been lucky with the weather! Love, Pat

Oh, I wish I could have seen him venture outdoors for the first time.  I'm sure even walking on the grass was an experience for him.  He's so cute.  Cats are good swinners so even if he falls in the pond, other than getting wet, he'll probably be ok.   I'm so glad you have a private back yard so the "girls" can come out from time to time.  I know that must be helping with the healing process.   Linda in Washington
