I never cease to marvel at Mother Nature. As you know, due to my circumstances this year I have not been able to work in the garden at all. I was very unhappy over that fact. However, due to the work Mike and I have put in over the last few years, Mother Nature has rewarded us abundantly even though the garden has been neglected.
Yesterday we did manage to plant up the front garden tubs and put up three hanging baskets. Just that small effort tired me out.
I have had something worrying me all week that I have only shared with a few people but it is part of the journey I am on so I will share it with you all here. A few days ago I found a strange dark brown patch on my affected breast. The edges were slightly raised. I knew that there was a possibility that it could be a skin cancer particularly as I did have a cancerous lump on the outside of my breast apart from the internal tumour and I was told I was "high risk" because of that. You can imagine the state that I have been in. Luckily I was booked in to see the nurse at the oncology clinic this morning.
She looked at it and felt I had nothing to worry about. She could see I was not convinced, not completely at ease, so she called in a senior colleague. This colleague immediately told me I had nothing to worry about. Several more had appeared overnight. These are radiation burns from the treatment and she has seen it often before in people with sensitive skin like mine. It does not happen to all but my skin has always been tender. She told me that the affects of radiotherapy do not peak until fourteen days after you cease the treatment, so I am likely to get even more strange brown patches. After that, given time, they should fade although I might always have some trace of them. Can you imagine my relief? I truly was scared for a few days. So, hopefully I can put it all behind me until October when I see the surgeon again. Praise the Lord.
The soreness and redness have also not peaked yet but I can deal with that now that I know everything is o.k. The tiredness must be endured for some weeks yet. All I have to do now is (hopefully) settle on the Tamoxifen. Fingers crossed.
Leo had his second jab/shot yesterday. Next Wednesday he can venture out into the garden for the first time. We will be glad because he sees the dogs and us going out there and is now doing his best to find a way into this strange new world.
Anyway, I have gone completely off the point here. I started off by talking about Mother Nature and how nice our garden is looking considering it has hardly been touched since last October.
So I shall leave you with some photos that Mike took earlier today.
Well, I have fiddled about on here for hours. I tried to make a slideshow of the flowers like I did of Leo yesterday but it would not have it this time. Spent ages doing captions as well. Such is life. So I had to cut down on the amount of photos I have put on here as it is laborious doing them all one at a time.
Mike is emptying out all the old plants from the tubs and tomorrow we start planting, I shall only be able to do some but him indoors has promised to do most of it. They forecast Thunder for Saturday in these parts so it will be good to get things planted in time for some rain to give them a head start.

So glad the brown patches turned out to be non-threatening. A list of possible after effects would not go amiss, would it ?
Your garden is repaying you for all your past hard work, the pictures are really lovely.

I love the roses ! I have Calla Lilly's but no poppys. I must go get a pot or two and add them to my "lump" of dirt out in the front of my house. I thought they normally didn't come back each year in colder climates , but it looks like yours did. So beautiful. You have a wonderful husband...it looks like he's done a fabulous job maing your own "Garden of Eden." I can't wait to hear of Leo's escapades once he can go out. Linda in Washington
Oh, Jeannette, your flowers are so beautiful!! I'm sure they lift your spirits and cheer you up everytime you walk out into the garden. Your photos are excellent, too.

I am glad that you sent out the email. I didn't get an alert on this entry. Praise the Lord that you didn't have cancer in those spots. I do hope they will not get to painful. Your flowers are beautiful. Maybe God really made them turn out to be so pretty especially for you. I bet Leo will have such a good time when he is able to get outside. Hugs, Helen
I'm so glad that your skin issue wasn't anything to be concerned with. Your flowers are so beautiful! Really enjoyed the photos.
Pam
Alerts do appear to have gone off shortly after 9 am, Jeannette. Enjoyed your flower pics, am glad everything is still going well.
Was relieved to hear it wasn't another form of cancer showing it's ugly head. The pictures Mike took of the outside garden are truly beautiful! (Hugs) Indigo
Glad your skin issue wansn`t what you thought it was, and the flowers looked a picture.
luv bella xx

I am so pleased that you have had your mind put at rest Jeannette, you must have been terrified with every justification too. At least now you can relax a little and concentrate more on the happier things in life. Your garden looks lovely and colourful and shows whthat all the work that has gone into it wasn`t wasted by any means. Mother Nature certainly has been very kind to you. Your roses look wonderful as do all the other flowers in your photos. I have just the one more hanging basket to go and a few more bedding plants to go in and that`s it for a while. I`m just waiting for them to reach their best before I take some more photos of them. I`ve just seen the slideshow of not-so-little Leo, it really made me smile, he`s so gorgeous. :o)
Love Sandra xxxx
Jeanette so glad to hear that your brown spots were nothing for you to worry about. Radiation isn't an easy process with the soreness and burning sensation. If I never mentioned taking ginger daily to help with the burning sensation, please take some daily be in gingersnap cookies, the ginger spice, ginger tea, has helped a lot who were having radiation with the burning, usually I tell folks to start before radiation, but won't hurt to try it and see if it helps. Your flowers are just beautiful, thanks for sharing your pictures with all of us. Take care, bless you. Arlene (AJ)
I don't seem to have any alerts tonight! I'm glad the brown patch is nothing to worry about. THe flowers are beautiful, especially the pink poppies with the darker centre. Jeannette xx http://journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels/

The flowers are so pretty! I had thought that the spots were radiation burns.
I hsve always loved gardening too. This year, my garden suffers from neglect because I've been so depressed and also, have lost a big part of my income and don't have the money to water and so forth. My mowever broke last year and due to the decrease in income, I can't afford to fix it. Still, I do have some very pretty flowers that seem to come back. I'm so glad the news was good and not bad. Thank you for letting me know. God bless and keep you as your begin to heal.
Hi Jeannette I didn't get an alert for this posting.I only found it by chance as I clicked onto your journal this morning to show my Better Half the pics of bonny LEO.As he was chatting cats to me before going to work, telling me a neighbour had a new kitten too. What beautiful pictures these are and yes Mother Nature is wonderful I totally agree. The climbing rose is fantastic, and I am sure your new tubs will be as well.Poppies I adore.I was happy to read of your good news about the dark patches on your ?.Thats great news.Don't overdo things in the garden when you feel a little better, as it might throw you back another week.YouTake Care and thanx for showing us the beauty of some of your garden.I suspect Mike might be chasing all over it next week ,once LEO is let out into the garden.Watch he doesn't scramble over that fence LOL!! You have said he is a little live wire Haaaaaaaaa.Take Care God Bless.Kath

Your garden is stunning. I agree that Mother Nature is wonderful but she doesn't always do that well without a lot of advance help from us. Ramblers don't bloom like that unless they've been well pruned. I hope you are able to settle on the Tamoxifen soon and that you both have a wonderful summer. With love XXX
Jeannette, your flowers and garden are spectacular. LOL...they look better than mine, which I've touched. Boy, you sure must have been worried this week. I'm no glad that everything is ok. It really is best to have all your concerns looked at. You are right. I haven't gotten any alerts again this week. I have to go and look at your last entry and see how big little Leo has gotten. Love xx Chris
beautiful flowers !! I am glad all is going ok with you.
take care now, vanessa xxx
Sit back, relax and enjoy your beautiful garden and your wonderful hubby and know that God is in control.....
Have a beautiful weekend!
Linda :)
Oh the flowers are beautiful. How "gawgeous" as we would say here in Southern part of the U.S. I see you have included "shot" in there beside "jab" for the American friends who have no idea what jab is. (Oh what a graphic description!) lol Glad your worries was nothing to worry about.
Sonya
I missed this entry... dang alerts! I got the test one and came any way to see... so glad I did! I am thrilled to hear your mind is more at ease. I love the flowers they are beautiful!

Hi Jeanette, for some reason I haven't been getting the alerts for your journal, so I have a few to read. I was so glad that everything turned out OK and there was nothing to worry about, it must be a very trying time for you. Your garden is so lovely as I've said before, and I hope you take every opportunity to sit in there. It will be great when Leo can go outside and I'm sure he will keep you entertained with his antics. I wonder if you got the rain they forcast. We didn't. Its still very hot and humid here in Shropshire. All the very best Jeanette.
