Planting Finished

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

We have worked hard the last couple of days. Well Mike has worked much harder than I  - although I have played my part and done as much as I could.  What I could not actually do I oversaw from a chair in a patch of shade.  I certainly got plenty of fresh air.  Shall I let you into a little secret?  Well, maybe not ........still as you are all pressing me - I know that you are.........well .............for an hour I sat out there topless.(Jeannette! you daring old devil, I hear you say).  Well, I was in a place where none of the neighbours could possibly see me.  I was advised to get as much air to my breast as I could.  So I took them literally!  You would not believe the difference it has made to the redness and soreness.  So, I shall be doing it again and no there will not be any photos.

Now, nature must take over and we hope to get a colourful show of all the blooms this summer.  However, if it proves as hot as it was last summer then the flowers will go over quickly, they will literally bloom themselves into  burn out.  Hopefully we will get no watering bans.  We have planted Butterfly attracting plants as well this year such as Heliotrope and some Rosemary.  Butterflies and bees all love those.  I read something  in the newspapers about  bees being in peril, colonies are dying out.

This is quite a startling and terrifying fact.  Bees polinate just about everything, all the crops of the world and flowers of course.  Did you know that if all the bees were lost, it would only take seven years for the whole human race to die out.  The extinction of us humans in just that short space of time.  It is true.  So, Mike and I are doing our bit to encourage them into the garden.  I was happy when I took photos today to see lots of bees settling on our plants.

I also wonder what has happened to the Ladybirds (Ladybugs).  We used to get lots here.  Only saw one the whole of last summer and this year - not one.

We were very lucky in that the red Geraniums we have planted along the edge of the pond actually overwintered in the garden because it was so mild  and that is why they are large specimens.  Having tubs all around the pond does restrict the view of the fish when we are sitting down but they serve two purposes.  They deter Herons who can find nowhere to stand and they prevent Nathan and Daniel from falling in.  Hopefully, Leo as well!

Mike and I are both tired now, very achy so we are going to just chill out for the next couple of days.  Becky and family are away in Somerset.  She loaned me some books to read before she left.  So, as long as it remains dry, I shall find a patch of shade and settle in with a book and a nice cup of tea, topless of course!

I will leave you with the garden pictures I took today of the front and the back.  I hope you enjoy them.

Your flowers are beautiful. If it helps your soreness and tenderness to let air get to it then go for it. I couldn't do that here. To many neighbors. You don't see them very much but you can bet if you went topless they would see you LOL. Have a good Sunday. Hugs, Helen

Your garden is looking lovely Jeannette, It`s always very satisfying, aches and pains aside, to sit back and enjoy all your hard work. You`ve both done a smashing job. I`m glad going topless in the garden has helped you, perhaps now you can get an even tan...lol! :o)

Love Sandra xxxx

Wonderful beautiful flowers and gardens! I agree with you on , it being worrisome the bees are slowly disappearing. I was wondering about something myself. Cell phone usage is up like never before, it works on a molecular cellular signal. There are certain signals that will kill an insect. Sometimes technology isn't worthwhile. (Hugs) Indigo

Now that's what geraniums look like in So. California because they don't die during the winter months.  My lavender seems to be a big attraction to bees, so I have plenty.  I'll be happy to send you bees and raccoons.  LOL  We can buy bags of live lady bugs at our garden centers..they are beneficial for eating aphids, etc.  Tell Mike  "well done."   Everything looks fantastic.  Your own little corner of paradise.  Linda in Washington

Your garden is so pretty...and I....am jealous.

I must say, the second paragraph was a bit of a chuckle.....here's how I read it...
"for an hour I sat out there topless in the garden........and we hope to get a colourful show all summer."

::giggle::

I know....wicked, aren't I?

big hugs...

What a stunning garden!  I feel jealous too, but if anyone deserves to sit in privacy in the sun in their own patch of England, you do.   I'm praying the weather keeps fine for more restoration and healing.   With very best wishes from Neenie.

Lovely, lovely!  What a colorful show of nature.  I 've heard the same sad news about the bees.  I've seen a few this year.  I am the gardener in the family and whenever my husband tries to boss me around regarding my space I get very ugly!  Be well hon, rose~

Your garden is so beautiful.  I love the pond and of course all the flowers.  You can see the love and all the work that is put into it because it is so pretty.  I'm glad your skin is responding to the fresh air. Glad it is helping to expose it to the nice air.
Take good care!
Hugs, Kathy

Can't see your pictures Jeannette, probably because they move, dial up has trouble with that, but the ones you posted below are gorgeous, you're certainly doing your bit for the smaller visitors to the garden.  Your garden has the look of well loved, blooms respond to that feel.

Very daring of you to be outside topless...........if it's doing some good then lets hope this sunny weather continues to help the process.  Take care. Rache

Hi Jeannette !!!!!! I hope you are feeling much better. Do try to let some more air to your skin. Its been quite steamy here in Georgia so you might not want to sit outdoors here in Georgia.

We have been getting tons of birds to our backyard since my dad bought a bird feeder and he has been working on a flower garden out back. We have been getting tons of squirrels and chipmunks and we have been getting an occasional butterfly.

Its always nice to find a little shade and do some reading. I would love to be there having some tea with you and enjoying your flowers and things. Do take care my dear friend. Tell Mike and everyone hello for me.

You are daring, but I'm glad it made you feel so much better.  There is nothing like some fresh air for sure.  I've spent way too much time indoors.  The flowers are all so pretty, I hope you get some butterflys.  We rarely get more than one or two on a summer day and have tried to plant things they like.  Maybe it just takes time for them to find out where they are???  I'm just so happy summer is here !
