Wild Thursday

It is blowing an absolute gale here and the skies are growing ever darker.  Never known winds like this in July.  The papers mention the fact that many people are suffering from winter illnesses such as colds and flu. The weather is hitting seaside traders very hard.  More rain is forecast in the areas already hit so badly by flooding and now Oxford has been affected as well.  Many people have no fresh drinking water and to read of people fighting over water bowsers and people charging others £15 for a drink of water is appalling.

My heart goes out to all those that are affected, many are not insured. Some insurance companies are now saying they will not cover people whose homes are in areas likely to flood. Thankfully, there have been few fatalities unlike the terrible floods of 1953 when so many died.

It is all so depressing.  Let me lighten the mood a little. Although this cartoon is obviously set in a much bigger flood, it is very funny, at least I thought so.

It was lovely spending the afternoon with Becky and the boys yesterday, they seem to develop more each time I see them.  They had some Madiera cake which they both love. Then every time Mike left the room Daniel ran after him shouting "cake Grandad".  He certainly has a healthy appetite.

I received a lovely present a few days ago.   Lots of you will know that our friend Sandra Sandra`s Scribbles recently had a holiday in Russia.  She sent me a little gift on her return.  Now, when I showed this to Nathan and Daniel, you should have seen the joy on their faces.  I told them that I was going to show them some magic.  Here is what Sandra sent me and what I used

As I produced one doll from inside another, their faces were a picture of amazement and wonder.

Nathan keep saying "again Nana" all the time laughing and clapping his hands.  There is nothing like seeing that sort of joy on a child's face.  It reminded me of my own youth when, as a very small child, my beloved Grandmother would show me things from her precious china cabinet, curiosities that my uncle had brought back from all over the world.

So, thank you Sandra.  You not only made me happy, you made two little boys very happy as well.  I am sure they will always want to see "Svetlana" every time they visit.

It did stay dry enough for the boys to spend time in the garden and Nathan spent his time kicking a ball around.  Wonder if we have another David Beckham in the making.

Daniel was much more interested in playing with some clothes pegs.  They also loved talking to and watching the rabbits which you can see in the background and also climbing on top of the run.  It kept showering lightly but that did not put them off.

Jack does exactly what our Pip used to.  He likes to sit and "guard" the rabbits.  Now he has backup, Leo lays and watches them as well.

Considering the atrocious weather we have been having, the plants are not looking too bad.  Trouble is we cannot really sit out there to really enjoy them, but at least we can see them from the house.

Lastly, Mike got a very nice photo of Leo.  He is really growing up now.  We must contact the vet soon to see about getting him neutered.  He is a very loving cat who actually thinks he is a dog!  He runs to the door with the dogs when anybody knocks, he loves to go in their dogbeds, he sits in line with them at mealtimes and tries to go for walks when Mike takes Jack and Jesse out!

He was so funny yesterday.  When Nathan was kicking the ball around, Leo kept shooting out from behind bushes and having a go himself.  You should have heard the screams of laughter from Nathan.

Well, this is turning into a book rather than a journal entry.  I must get off the computer.  Every day I promise myself I will cut down my time on here but somehow it never seems to happen.  Going to get a few jobs done and then, because of the weather, I will settle down with a book.

Love,

Jeanette, lovely Russian dolls!!

BTW to my knowledge 3 people have died in these recent floods (a pair of premature twins who couldn't get to hospital in time and another, a young man I think, and don't forget the 7 people who died in the floods last month in the north!

I hope the rain goes away soon.  The flooding has been awful.  Your pictures are wonderful.  Leo is growing up so fast.  He has beautiful markings.  Jack is a fine looking dog also.  I remember him as a pup!  I used to have some of those nesting dolls.  Linda

It is wet here but we've needed the rain so I won't complain.  I will be praying for all those suffering from the terrible rains in your part of the world.  It is devestating to loose everything you own .  We must try to remember they are only things...and can be replaced given time.  When we had the terrible hurricanes a few years back, people were charging big time prices for water and such too, the goverment did step in and stop that .  People are still recovering from all that, it takes a long time.  Hope your day isn't too dreary and that you find a smile or two.  Thank you for the smiles this morning.  The pictures of your grandsons would brighten any day.  'On Ya' - ma

They showed the weather there on the news this morning. How awful for those people. My prayers are certainly with them. Just look at those handsome grandsons of yours. They are absolutely adorable. Love the gift from Russia. It is beautiful. And Leo, WOW, has he grown. And he is so cute. Your garden looks so lovely, I hope you get to sit out there soon before Fall sets in. (((((hugs))))))))

It's torrential rain here as well Jeanette, and so windy, we also have had to put the central heating on. I'm thankful we are not  in a flooded part of England though, that must be heartbreaking to have your home flooded and be displaced, that is if you can find alternative accommodation.
Leo has grown so much, he's just gorgeous, and of course the boys, they must be glad to be outside.
The cartoon made me smile as did the video yesterday.
Like millions of others I'm reading Harry Potter at the moment.
Have a great weekend Jeanette
Take care

Hello Jeannette,

The weather here is very gloomy though the wind has only just started to strengthen. This morning it wasn`t too bad compared to recent days but the clouds came over again and looked really threatening throughout the rest of the morning. The people who have been hit by the floods need far more help than they`ve been given, I wonder if all these over-paid pop bands will do a charity concert for them? Some hope! I`m glad Svetlana has given the boys so much pleasure. Roman was playing with the one Jim gave to his sister and was also amazed as each doll was opened. By the way, one of his sisters has called hers Valentina and the other, Baboushka after the Kate Bush song. I love the ark graphic, it gave me a well deserved giggle. Have a as nice a day aspossible in this dull and miserable July.

Love Sandra xxxx

Sounds like you had a wonderful day. That set of nesting dolls is very pretty! I'm sure the boys loved her. Between the kids and the animals it seems that you had lots of laughs today.
Enjoyed your pictures a lot. Hope you get some rest tonight.

Its lovely to see photos of the boys enjoying themselves again. Great gift. Its is fascinating to see all the dolls.  The garden looks lovely dispite the rain. My flowers are quietly drowning, its such a shame.  It dreadful that so many people have been hit so badly with this dreadful weather. You take care. Kathie.

Thanks for sharing your visit with the boys dear heart. Leo is a riot! Hope the rain lets up soon in your neck of the woods. (Hugs) Indigo

Leo has turned into a beautiful boy.  Jack may think that rabbit is a sheep and is waiting to herd it.  The boys are getting bigger each time you post a picture of them.  Your yard looks beautiful..the rain certainly isn't hurting the plants.  It's been in the middle 60's here when it rains, so it's almost like the tropics.  Everything grows like crazy. Beautiful photos Jeannette and the Leo looks very handsome.  Hmm, yes I'd sort out getting him neutered soon otherwise you may be a granny again before you know it.  Loved the cartoon.  Hugs, Terry x

Just reading the entry about the weather sounded just like the weather here today in London..... Wet & windy.  Managed to get over to the supermarket this evening and when we came out we could not get across the High Road as it had rained heavily while we were in there....lol. Pretty scary though seeing what is happening.

The pics are adorable Jeannette, garden looks lovely .
