AOL Bloody Hell

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Isn't this a lovely bright graphic and so right for the Spring?

Would you believe that yesterday I got TOS'd again from AOL - the second time in 48 hours!!!!  What was my crime? Because alerts are not working at all for me and I was unsure whether they are working for you, I emailed ten people, yes just ten people.  Immediately my connection to the internet disappeared.  So without further ado, I telephoned AOL.  I told them I suspected my account had been suspended yet again and they confirmed it had - for sending bulk e-mail to 800 people!

Well, I let rip I can tell you.  The people on the sub-continent were left in no doubt that they were not dealing with some prime English rose.  I told them exactly what I thought of them in no uncertain terms.  The assistant was very apologetic and said he could not understand why this was happening and it would be looked into.  In other words, they will do absolutely bloody nothing as usual.  I told them they should be ashamed of themselves, tossing people for sending bulk emails when they have not, that journals did not work properly, alerts are not working and when we complain we are totally ignored and that I was sick of paying a monthly subscription to a sub-standard service.

But this time, instead of just re-connecting me I was told they had deleted ALL my passwords on our three screen-names and they would have to give me a temporary password to log on and I would then have to change all my passwords.  This annoyed me even further as you can imagine but there was nothing I could do.

"Goodbye" says the little man from the sub-continent.  "Oh no sunshine" said I.  "You are staying right where you are until I am sure I can get back online."   I duly typed in the password.  Nothing.  He said I must be able to get back on line.  I asked if he was calling me a liar.  I told him I was getting an error message with various problems listed.  "Oh, I cannot deal with that - I will have to put you through to our technical department!"   So into the queue I go to be told by a disembodied voice that most problems could be dealt with online. They are taking the piss are'nt they?

At least the man at tech help did sort it out.  Apparently, because we use a router, the router knows your password.  If the password is changed for any reason, the router will not work.  So be warned if you have one.  After about an hour and a half I did get back online. I then ran full virus check, Adaware, Spybot and Trojan destroyer.  Nothing was found on my computer.

I was told by Tech help  that I could apply for an e-mail Exemption to stop this happening again, so I have done so and have to now wait 48 hours to see if I am "approved".  At the end of the conversation I was told that I would receive a form to rate my experience with AOL and how I had been dealt with.  I told them that AOL was zero rated in my eyes.  To fling someone off twice within 48 hours is disgusting and unacceptable.  They only had to look at one email to see that all it contained was a link to my journal.  I was not sending out pornography or explicit language nor was I selling to people.  I told him that if this happens one more time, they can stick my AOL account where the sun don't shine.

I have always been the one to urge you to complain to the journals editor if you are experiencing problems.  From my recent experiences I would say now, do not waste your time. I have been complaining about my loss of journals buttons for over two weeks and for the loss of alerts several times.  I never even get acknowledged and the problems remain.

Anyway all is back to normal now as far as getting online is concerned but nothing has been resolved as far as all the journals problems.  I am still getting no alerts coming in whatsoever.  As you can imagine, I did not need this stress.  Luckily I was able to de-stress by watching "Dancing On Ice" and "Primeval".

I will not be seeing the family today because Nathan and Daniel both have the sniffles.  I feel quite sad about that, seeing them does help me take my mind of my problem if only fora short while but I cannot take the chance of catching anything now.  Mind you, having been at the hospital and the doctors surgery there is always a possibility that could happen anyway.  Several people in the surgery were coughing and spluttering and they never have a window open in there.

I thought you might like to see the lovely palm Mike bought for me yesterday.  I do not think photos do justice to the actual size because it is very wide apart from being fairly tall but you should be able to see that it is quite large. Our t.v. stands 3 feet tall.  I just wonder what I shall do as the plant grows larger and larger lol.  It will be a question of "Me Jane, you Tarzan."

Not quite sure what I shall do today.  My back is very bad.  Stress always find the weakest spot and I know it must be stress because it has been pretty good recently.  I have a couple of DVD's to watch so maybe this would be a good time.

Wishing you all a happy Sunday.

Thank to dear Sugar for the beautiful signature tag.

Good Morning Jeanette guess what?? we are only four hours apart now as we already put our clocks forward over here...
;-) I am sorry you are having such problems with AOHell if it wasn't for the great community spirit of AOL I think a lot of us would drop it.
Keeping you in my prayers..love the palm..

I got fed up with the help desk, in the end I did cancel and they back pedalled so fast I think they were turbo charged!!! I ended up with 4 months credit and then started ringing the 0800 number instead and got far more help and advice than the foreign climes!!! It took a very nice young man just 2 mins to figure out the problem in the end and once I knew what to do I got the offending problem sorted!!! Enjoy the rest of this glorious day, love Joan

OH I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN, I HAVE BEEN ON TO THEM SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THINGS FIXED AND TO BE HONEST THEYRE NOT A GREAT HELP

Sound as if you were really in the mood for the person from the sub continent today well done.  AOL seems to be picking on you just now Jeannette.  Love Joan.

All this tossing is beyond me.  It costs the earth to ring them up as well, much less be 'held in a queue'.  If it's of any use, I aways get alerts for your journal so there's no need to send me one of your disgusting emails!!!  Love, Angie x

If it wasnt for my journal ,I think any server would do ,dont they value journals at all ?Doesnt it promote AOL ,when you have done so much to encourage us and our journals, cant they see what an ambassodor you have been  ?I did an entry last week ,when I too was cross ,Joe doesnt seem to want to know ,at least Jeff helped me when he was there ,now we have no one ...love Jan xx

That sort of lack of service makes me sick. Just WHO is the bloody customer? WHO is paying their friggin wages? Now look what you've done to my blood pressure! lol.

Have a look at my grandaughter, I managed to get some pictures on at last, (not the last post, that was me having a laugh, it's the one before) I  don't know when I shall be getting to Germany to see her again.

Do you think your computer could have been 'hijacked'.  There are ways that hackers can get your computer to send spam to hundreds of other computers without you knowing.  That would account for all those emails you know nothing about.  That is why AOL (and other ISPs) block accounts where lots of emails originate from.  Just a thought.

Can't believe AOL sometimes! GRRRRRRR
Oh my, the Palm Mike bought is gorgeous!!!!

Like the graphics, Jeannette and the palm Mike bought.
Suggest, following on from other commenter, that you run a full virus, malware and other nasties-scan. AdAware is a good program, if you're not already having it.

Jeannette
Maybe changing your password isn't a bad idea... maybe you got hacked did you look in your sent mail?  Does it appear mail that you did not send is going out?  Do you slow down while on the computer?  I know AOL is a joke at times but twice would make me wonder if someone got ahold of my account.

Exactly the same thing happened to me twice Jeannette. Apparently I`d sent over a thousand emails but from another screenname. I went through the same proceedure, changing passwords etc.  The next day exactly the same thing happened so I closed the other screenname and it never happened again. I can only presume that someone had hacked onto it, as I was told happens but at least they couldn`t do it again. What a shame you can`t see the boys until they are well but you can`t be too careful with your health at the moment.  I hope you soon get some relief from your back pain.

Love Sandra xxxx

I am so sorry you too are having trouble with AOL...I find it so odd that AOL stands for "AMERICA ON LINE" and each and everytime that I have called for assistance I have been handled by a comuter or when I am finally given over to a real life human..I will always get someone from INDIA OR IRAN that I can not for the life of me understand what the hell he is saying. lol!
You are right there is no excuse for what they did to you...all they had to do was look at that email...
Take care my friend and God bless you,
love ya,
carlene

Sounds like someones hacked on to your screenie and when you send email it bulk sends at same time...Tech help lot always stay on phone to you until they can see you back online other lot don't....Oh and ask to speak to a higher grade tech support person in ireland or glasgow...When you phone try clicking on faults/repairs choice as it's more likely to get you through to ireland or glasgow...I am getting your alerts fine   Caff xxxxx

Hi
when we had trouble with aol a few months ago; they took out six months worth of payments in one go and then suspended my service because I went overdrawn and couldn't pay the bill, I phoned them asking for my MACK code, telling them I was swapping to BT as their service was so bad, they immediately went into panic mode and bent over backwards to get everything sorted out. which they did, Im sure if you were to do the same thing they would get into gear and solve the problem
Hope you are feeling ok
Kerry

I am surprised they did not offer you free usage for a few months for all the trouble that was caused.  I would of demanded it!

I don't understand why you are having so much AOL trouble when we're not having any.  Well, at least I've not had any here in my neck of the woods. I know it is VERY frustrating when it happens however.  I love the daffodil graphic...so pretty. And I love that big palm...I wouldn't have room for it in my mobile home but I do have one of those tall silk trees back in behind my sofa.  I love the touch of greenery it adds to the room. Now, I need a sunny warm day to take it outside and give it a good cleaning.  I would like a real palm for my yard.  There are some that grow in cold, damp weather.  I see them all around town and they seem to flourish.  Hope the boys are feeling better soon.  Give Jack & Jesse a hug.  Linda in Washington state

I hope you didn't contact AOL on their expensive 0870 number either!  There is a free phone one that they don't publish 0800 279 6771......it is still a crap service but at least you are not charged for being ignored!  Eileenx

Anonymous said...

Lovely plant and thankfully it is too small for you to swing from at the moment.......just take good care of yourself and try and relax after your recent AOL experience.  Thinking about you.  Eileenx

I think I'm must be really lucky because I seem to be the only one who hasn't experienced AOL trouble lately.  However, in dealing with the details of my dad's recent death (life insurance, pension and health benefits tranfered to my mom) as well as several of my mom's charge accounts have ALL been experiencing DATA problems.  Thus, I'm spending many hours on HOLD mostly trying to straighten it all out.
I think something's going on that's not severe enough yet for everyone to connect the dots...

What a palaver Jeannette.  Strange that they threw you off for allegedly sending out mass emails, as someone managed to get into one of my subsidiary accounts and tried to use it to send out spam.  I didn't know anything about it until AOL informed me that they'd intervened and advised me to change my password.  Shortly afterwards the same thing happened again, so I came up with a really obscure password and that stopped it.  But there were no threats of throwing me out, I do find their attitude very high handed bearing in mind that the fault is all theirs!  Perhaps we should threaten them with a letter to 'Watchdog' - that often gets results!
take crae

Freda

That's my girl!! I wish I could of been there to hear you give them a piece of good advice(wink). I know you have probably already done this hon...but have you gone by your main alerts page to see if perhaps with all the grief AOL has been giving you, if perhaps your alerts where somehow turned off there along with your account? It's the only thing I can think of . I have mine set to alert me in email as well just to play it safe. Usually if the one is down , I still manage to get the email notice. I'm so sorry AOL is causing you so much grief on top of everything else. (Hugs) Indigo

Forgot to tell you to give Mike a hug for me the palm he bought for you is stunning!!

Well Well Jeannette,I just don't B----- B------ It. As Victor Mildrew would have said.
I went to AOL for a grumble 2 week ago and my problem was fixed in two minutes so polite was the tech man.YES I must admot I got a shock and a big suprize he was so courtious,He told me to re build my AOL adaptor, talked me through other things, and said I will not leave you until everything is working and fine, and my pooter has been fantastic since no probs whatsoever.I was sick of not being able to do this and that in journals. So touch wood I am hoping no more probs for a while.Sounds you have or had an hacker.I hope the boys get well soon and you take care relax and no do not get stressed worst thing you can do now.I hope your pooter probs are soon back to normal.Have a lovely Sunday Evening.Thankyou to you and Sugar for the instructions how to do the link to your journals re:- the graphics.Hooray I managed to do it first time.Take Care God Bless.

I didn't get an alert for this entry, surprise, surprise, but I will check to see if you have done one each day so you don't have problems again.  AOL is a pain with the mail.  I had to do what you did to be able to send mail to my PSP groups without getting the royal boot all the time.  In the US, they refer to it as the "white list" which means you are permitted to send e-mail to groups or bulk mail to friends.  I'm surprised they didn't try to nab you when you send to the PSP Palace because that one link would have sent 20 some e-mails.  You certainly don't need this aggravation.

Love the palm Mike bought you and always adore Shelly's graphics.  Try and relax today, Jeannette.  Love, Chris

WOW, you certainly told them there, good for you, but did it get you anywhere?  probably not, AOL are quick to take our money but oh so slow to sort out our problems, but saying that I did get an alert for this entry, and I dont seem to be having as many problems as other J~Landers are having, sit back this afternoon with your feet up and relax whilst watching your dvds, hopefully it might just relese some of the tension in your back, hope the boys are better soon and can visit grandma & grandpa house again pretty quick, Love the plant that Mike brought for you,
take care Lynne xx

Hello Jeannette, I am sorry to hear about your experiences with AOL that shouldn't have happened. I hope everything gets resolved. I hope that you get this note from me. I hope that you are feeling a little bit better these days. I heard about your recent problems with your health and I have been keeping you in my thoughts. I am also sorry to hear that you couldn't see Nathan and Daniel I am sure you would have enjoyed that. The plant in your photo looks lovely however. What DVD's do you have ? I haven't been to our video store in quite a while. Anywho I just wanted to pop in and say hello. Take care my dear friend. Monae.

Don't those AOL people? Your ALWAYS having problems with your alert's-and I'm so sorry! I got got a new cable hook up, with Verizon; I'm getting my PC connection, phone bill,{not including my cell phone!} and my HBO, TMC, etc.
cable stations all on one bill; I'm enjoying all the music channels too; anyway,
the cable man said I may as well cancel AOL, because I no longer need to pay them! I have a Verizon search engine, a virus/spyware program, and AOL mail,
AIM, is free! I'm going to look into that-maybe you should too? Although UK AOL
might be a bit different, don't know; love your bright and sunny graphics; have a good weekend Jeannette. ~Diane~

Sorry about the AOL Hell.  I had that happen to me sending things to my graphic group.  I got on the white list, but since AOL is free here now, I have heard the white list is only for paying customers.  I'm not sure so I use mail forwarders for my group and I hardly ever email more than 4 folks.  LOL.
I have heard about your recent discovery of cancer and I will be saying prayers for your health and beating this beast.  At 42 comments on this entry, you have a lot of support.  Big hugs and much love.  I hope you have a good week and don't have to have any more dealings with AOL tech folks.  LOL

Hi,

I am new to your journal......just came across from Kim's journal.

I am so very sorry to hear about your diagnosis and wish you the very best of luck.

Well from one Brit to another.....i can hear where your coming from regarding AOHell's problems. During Feb they managed to totally cut my broadband instead of downgrading me and then i had to wait 14-15 days to actually get back up and running.Compensation was offered....lol i month free...what month we were halfway through......typical aol
