Update from Becky

Hello everyone, this is Becky.  As you can imagine things have been hectic and this is the first opportunity I have had to let you know the latest news about Mum.

She had her surgery at around 9.45 a.m. on Friday.  No doubt she will tell you the gory details another time. She was awake from the anasethetic within 15 minutes but had to spend an hour in the recovery room.  She was back on the ward by 12 noon. They constantly monitored her bp and blood sugar levels and kept her on oxygen for several hours.  You know Mum, she even said take a photo for my journal, I do not care how bad I might look I want my readers to see that I faced it and have the photo to prove it.  She will post that when she feels better.

She had a drain in her chest and also under her arm but because she responded so well to the drainage of what they call "serious fluid", the consultant said it could come out and that he would have the district nurse come and check for any problems.

So, the best news is that Mum is home.  We brought her home about 30 minutes ago.  She is very weak on her legs and in a great deal of discomfort as you can imagine, she is also very tired as it was impossible for her to get to sleep until about 3 a.m. and the nurse woke her up at 5. am. to run a battery of tests!  Mum thought she would be able to go back to sleep but the nurse zipped up the window blind and said she could watch the sun come out.  Mum was not best pleased especially as the sun did not come up.

She has several battle scars where she is black and blue, she has a cough from the anasthetic, a terrible sore throat from the breathing tube that went down, she is in great discomfort with the breast and the underarm where they took away all the lymph nodes.  But the main thing is that she is home.  She did so well and also the consultant thought it was better to get her home as quickly as possible and she would recover better in her own surroundings.  Mum made two great friends in there and was sad to leave them in a way but they have exchanged addresses and in once case,e -mail and you know Mum, when she makes friends, she keeps them.

The district nurse will be coming tomorrow.

So she is taking one day at a time.  Later I will read her all the messages you left for her.  Right now she is enjoying a large mug of tea, wants to have something to eat and then get some sleep for a few hours.

Dad and I thank you so much for your support.  I do not need to tell you how Mum feels about you all but it has been very heartening for Dad and myself to know that all that love is out there for all of us.  This has been a very stressful time for the whole family.

Thank you all so much.  We know you will wish Mum a speedy recovery and look forward to her return to her journal.  Then she faces the next hurdle of the full results and what treatment will arise from that.  She still has a long way to go but the biggest hurdle yet is over, the cancer has been removed.

Love Becky

Thanks very much for that Becky.  It must have been the longest few days of your mum's life!!  I'm so very glad the worst bit is over and she's doing well.  Be assured though that whatever the future holds, whatever treatment - if any - she has to have, we'll all be there with her.  Love and best wishes to your mum and all the family - Angie, x

Hi Becky, I was looking on Jeannette's page to see if there was any news when I got you alert. Thanks for posting some news about your mum. Glad that she's back home. I'm sure it wasn't a great experience but she should be very proud of herself for being so brave and keep on fighting for herself and all of you. Jeannette is a very special lady and she deserves the best. I'm sure that on 9.30 last Friday lots and lots of us were thinking and praying for her. Dear Jeannette, try to rest as much as possible and enjoy being pampered by your family. Lots of cyber-hugs.

Send your Mum my love. It's funny I was just raking up all the fallen dead branches under the weeping willow, it's such a lovely sunny day here and the daffodils were nodding their heads in the breeze and somehow that made me think of Jeanette and I thought to myself, I bet Becky's put a post on. So when I came in for a cuppa I signed on and there it was.

Hope she feels more comfortable after a good sleep.

Love,

Becky, Thank you for stepping in and letting us all know how Mum is. I, and I am sure a lot of others have prayed, and will keep on praying that all will go well with her and she continues to make good progress.  How marvellous that she is home and of course, she will make better headway at home, in her own surroundings
where she is surrounded by love.  Love and Best Wishes...Pam.

Thanks Becky for bringing us all up to date with your Mum's surgery results.  It is so much better to recover at home in familiar surroundings. At least she can leave the curtains closed if she wants to.
I wish her a painfree, speedy and healthy recovery.  Praying hard for her still.  That's that bit over with now...thank God!  God Bless her and all of you.  May contentment reign now she is back home beside you all.   Jeanie

Hi Becky!  Thanks so much for posting your Mum's condition, and thank the Lord and her good doctor that the surgery is over and she is home again.  I see you have a bit of your Mum's knack for writing as you were able to tell us just what we were waiting to hear.  And isn't it just like your Mum to make some friends in the hospital? I know that you and your Dad will be taking good care of her and not letting her overdo too soon.  And take good care of yourselves too!

Thank you so much for the update Becky, I`ve been thinking about your Mum since yesterday morning and I`m glad to hear it all went well for her. She told me just how worried she was about going into hospital and how much she loathed them. I`m also pleased that she made some friends, it must have made it that little bit easier for her in there. Please give her my love and tell her I`ll phone her toward the end of the week. Thanks again.

I am so glad to hear Jeannette is doing as well as she is and is home.  What a nice report you gave, so well written.  I see you have your mother's writing talents  That is amusing that she would make friends she hated to leave and want a photo done so the world would know she survived!  That's courage there.

My prayers and hopes for a speedy recovery are with you all. I'm so sorry to say that I have lost contact with so many in J-Land and did not know that Jeanette was sick. I love her and she is a real special lady. That may sound phony since I've lost touch with so many.
