One boy and his dog(s)

When Nathan arrived we were concerned about our dogs.  Pip and Jester (Jesse) had never had anything to do with babies or young children. Pip was nine and Jess four when Nathan was born.  We need not have worried. He adores them and they feel the same way about him.

They will stay quietly whilst Nathan bangs them on the head, pulls their ears, pokes his finger in their eyes and in the case of Jesse, continually pulls on his nose.  Jesse brings him toys to play with which we hastily have to grab for hygienic reasons.

It is wonderful when children and animals can grow up together.  Children should be taught respect for animals right from the start as well as respect for human beings.  Nathan has a cat at home called Kizzy so he is used to our cats as well.  So far he has shown no fear and he is also fascinated in watching the fish.

Pip has amazed us the most.  As you can see from the pictures, he is enormous compared with Nathan.  Nathan loves it when when put him on Pip's back and walk Pip around the room.  He (Pip) really does look as big as a pony compared with an eight month old child.

Border Collies are such wonderful dogs in so many ways but the way they have taken to Nathan has truly staggered us.  There is only a little bit of Jesse in these photos, he had gone to lie down as Nathan had already worn him out!

We had some snow again this morning but it has turned to rain now and everywhere is like a swamp. They are predicting a drought in the South East this year!

Children and animals often seem to have a special bond. It is really nice.

I totally agree with you....being around animals is a very good way for kids to learn respect for other living creatures.  Darling photos.

awww, this is so darling!  I love the expression on Nathan's face as he is riding Pip!!  I think it is so good for children to be around animals.  Border collies are so sweet!  I love these pictures, Jeannette!  Thanks for sharing them!  Hope you are feeling relatively well these days.  Love ya, sweetheart! xox

How lovely that Nathan and the two dogs are so relaxed around each other. I believe children who grow up around animals also grow up with a healthy respect for other people too.  The photos are wonderful Jeannette,  Sandra xxx

That's so great! My cats had no patience and less tollerance for Tyler when he arrived. Ah well... Sasha gets his exercise running away from Ty all day. LOL

Pets and dogs in general do seem to take to children.  When I lived in a village, next door had a big alsation and they had a baby and that dog protected that kid.  Anyone going near the house did so at their own risk.  Great pics Jeannette thanks for sharing them

How cute the pictures. Our neighbor who has since moved away had a border collie "Jake" that we would dog sit for when they went on vacation. He would get to go work on a ranch every day with his owner. Hope you are having a great week. Linda

Littlest spent his days with childminder's dog and I was glad he did. Good for immune system, for understanding other species etc. We can't have a dog at home because we both work, and it isn't fair.

Great pictures!  You know, maybe my problem with animals is that I was not taught to co exist well with them from the beginning.  I am trying to do better with my children.

It's excellent that Nathan wasn't scared of riding Pip's back - he'll obviously make a good horseman one day! And nothing could be better for him at the moment than being able to play with the dogs - that'll add an important dimension to his development.

So glad things went well at the first meeting. You never know how pets and children will mix. Nathan obviously has the majic touch to get away with so much. The dogs must sense all the love and kindness in him and hence let him away with murder. Long may their happy and joyful relatioship last. Hope you are keeping better.
