RESULTS

A day of sunshine and showers today, well more showers than anything else and quite a strong wind.

I promised  you the results of the poll on what scares you the most so I am posting those results today.  The majority voted for loss of a loved one.  I thought that would come out on top.  It shows how dependent we are on other people, just how strong the power of love is and that we are so very human.

I was surprised that heights came in second.  What is it about heights?  I cannot stand them myself but with so many people flying today I thought it might come lower down the poll.   I know I cannot explain my fear of heights but I have always had it.

Anyway, without further ado, here is the result of the poll which got 197 votes.

Loss Of A Loved One 33 17%
Heighs 24 12%
Illness 20 10%
Confined Spaces 20 10%
Death 18 9%
The Dentist 17 9%
Spiders 15 8%
Creepy Crawlies 12 6%
Horror Movies 12 6%
Snakes 9 5%
The Dark 9 5%
Being Left Alone 8 4%
197

Quite a few left comments and some interesting fears were to be found amongst them -

Dreams, being deeply cut (wounded), loss of control, balloons, fireworks, thunderstorms, clowns, people dressed in animal costumes, ladders, identical twins, wooden spoons and lolly sticks.

I must admit I have never heard of a fear of identical twins before nor of wooden spoons or sticks.  I wonder what the names for these fears would be?  I can add another one.  I always feared store mannequins.  I do not know why but whenever I walked by one I always felt faint, my heart would race and I would get a prickling down my spine and yet I never had a problem with waxworks.  It was only those store dummies.

It would seem that fear is a strange emotion and can take so very many forms.

I hope that you enjoyed taking part.  If you like me running polls, I am more than happy to do them from time to time.  Let me know what you think.  Maybe I should do a poll asking you if you like me posting polls lol.

Have a good day everyone and don't walk under any ladders.

Lol Jeannette - me too!  I decided this morning that I wasn't going to spend half the day in jim jams and got dressed straight away.
It's really miserable weather here today, so no gardening, should be getting on wiht the wallpaper stripping, but bad weather makes me want to do things that cheer me up!
Now don't get me started on superstitions!  My mother made her life a misery (and everybody's around her) with her fear of superstitions.  I decided to live my life flying in the face of them!
Yes - more polls please!

Polls are fun. You wouldn't like to drive by the yard of the guy we know with his man maniquin and little girl beside him with her hand stretched up as if asking for a coin. Paula

I was one of those that fear the loss of a loved one and the second would have been heights so I am normal ??? according to your poll.  I like the polls and seeing the results.  It is sunny but cool here this morning.  It will warm up but you can tell summer is waning.  'On Ya' - ma

Interesting results of your survey.  I have never heard of a phobia about twins either and tried without success to see if it had a specifc name.  However, you might like to know that Arachibutyrophobia is a fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth!!!!!!  You learn something new every day! Hi Jeanette, I missed the poll as my pc's were out of commission at the same time. Loss of a loved one would have been my vote although I have other unexplained fears such as driving sometimes. Not all the time but it happens from time to time. The weather here in Texas today sounds like your weather but no winds yet:).....alice

Oops, I forgot to give you, in my previous comment, the name of the fear of mannequins, in case you didn't want to go look, Jeannette.  It is pediophobia.  Love you and have a nice day,

Krissy :)

This was very interesting.  There were some in comments that I'd never heard of either.  I don't like heights.  I get breatless sometimes just thinking about being up high!

Fear of twins?? LOL! I suppose people can be afraid of anything. I'm afraid of getting really SICK and not being able to care for myself. That's about it really. Heights don't bother me as long as I have a good rail to hang onto. As far as the Dentist...I'm not afraid, I just don't like it.  It was fun to read this.

As a Grandmom of Twins I can understand that fear especially around the age two! lol...they are a handful. I guess you poll just shows that people can be afraid of almost everything, the knack is trying to overcome it....love, Sandi

Am petrified of heights except when it comes to diving...I can quite happily and easily dive and jump off a 10m board yet i get the wobbles trying to change a lightbulb...My eldest lad is petrified of buttons which does have a proper name (can't rememberit like lol) and is actually a real pain to have...He can wear ONE metal jeans type button on trousers but shirts or jackets are a no no...And this causes problems for job interviews and such like...I'd try him out with hypnotherapy but it rarely works on people with autism/aspergers so am not going to waste my money  Caff xxx
