We had the family over yesterday as it was Dean's Birthday and really enjoyed it as always. Dean just likes a quiet time as he has never been a fan of birthdays and does not like any fuss. Afterwards they went out to have a meal together.
The weather remains more like October. It is horrible to hear such strong winds in what is supposed to be our summer and the outlook for the rest of the month is not good either.
Mike had a little surprise when he took the dogs out on Sunday. It is not often you see the cab of an American Freightliner over here, certainly not in our part of the country. However, there it was, parked in the next road and covered in Birthday stickers and decorations. We can only assume that it was arranged as a surprise treat. Him indoors was obviously very interested as that used to be his job. He drove forty foot oil tankers for Mobil. He says he would hate to be on the road these days, although he does miss his C.B. radio. Anyway, he could not resist taking a shot (you will gather he always has his camera with him).
He often takes the dogs to a certain place because they can splash in the water and he was telling me about a house that is in the middle of nowhere so I asked him to get a couple of photos.
The next photo shows the house again and the other building is the boathouse which belongs to it.
It must at least be a haven for wildlife
We were very surprised a couple of days after he took these shots to see in the paper that this property is for sale.
A staggering £1,500,000 !!! It does have five bedrooms, a gardener's cottage, ten acres of land (which I suppose is really reflected in the price) a swimming pool and a large conservatory. I must say, it would be a bit too remote for me even if I had the money (that is never likely to happen) although the views must be great with the sun and moon reflected on the water and, like I said, a great place for birdlife.
I wonder what the insurances costs? We have just changed our household insurer because we were getting ripped off by the old one. One of the first questions our new insurer asked was "is your properly within a quarter of a mile of any water?" followed up by "have you ever suffered flood damage?" Had we said yes, (and no, we are not) the premiums would have rocketed.
Maybe with the rain we have had last summer, during the winter and now this summer they have decided to upsticks and move on. Anyway for a keen ornithologist it must be paradise.
I shall be posting the results of the poll tomorrow. In the meantime you can all start guessing which chore came out as the most disliked lol!

Hi Jeannette sounds like just the place for Stuart and I we could set up our telescopes and view in comfort, unfortunately the lottery did not come up this week or any other week come to that. Love Joan.
Great pics.
I'm in the middle of Tropical Storm Fay and it is nasty here in South Florida!
Hugs, Rose
The wind does sound terribly rough. Uggh. We had a lot back in the spring but it is odd for August. Great shots. Hope you get better deal this time on the insurance:)alice

I like the house but not for that price! Whew!
Traci
Too remote for me...........understand, it isn't the money that would worry me. Hahahahahaha Eileen x
I could so live there
there is the small matter of money however

I would love to live in that house. That pond is weird looking divided all up like that. Those swan or geese are beautiful. This is the coolest August I can ever remember although for a few days now it has been in the lower 90's with no rain. We may get some off the tropical storm in Florida though as it may curve this way. Hugs, Helen
That house is lovely sitting there all by itself. That's the kind of land I want! Enjoy your night.

Hope Dean had a nice BD. :)
WOuld love to live in that house, if I had someone to take care of the grounds, really good transportation, & money for all the upkeep. LOL!
Hugs,
Sugar
Happy Birthday to Dean.... glad he enjoyed. I'd love that house... remote is good :) LOL Have a great week
d
The upkeep would probably kill me...I would need enough money to hire staff...lol. Your hubby takes great pictures....our storm never arrived up here as far as Tampa so we are thankful. It sort of went east right below us and it never achieved hurricane status. Our weather has been funny this summer too...take care, love, Sandi
((((((((((((((((((((HUGTOYOU)))))))))))))))))))))HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Dean, sounds like he had a nice one.hat i an amazing house,I would love to live there.
The house looks lovely, but alittle out of our price range :)
Love, Laini
Happy Birthday to Dean, I'm glad he had a wonderful day :)
The house looks awesome....can you imagine living in something like that with all the property? Wow, you'd need a care take for sure!
Pooh Hugs,
Linda
Happy belated birthday to Dean, he may not like them but I'm sure the boys were excited for him!
Love the truck, Peter would be in his element if he found one of those on the road for his birthday too! As for the house, it's beautiful, though the insurance would be astronomical as it's so near water.....perhaps that's why they're selling! Hope you're well. Pat x
Lovely pics from Mike, as usual :-D
That terrain looks very much the way it is around here - very flat - but nowt wrong with that!
Think you might be right about the water, would like to have seen that property when we had the worst of the rains.
I'm lucky in that this village seems to have been built on a hill - every way out of the village is down hill. Also the land falls away to the front of this house, so whilst rain isn't a problem - we don't half get full blast of the winds =:-O

Happy Belated Birthday Dean.......hope you had a wonderul day.
The photos are great Jeannette...... yes i agree with you it is a tad too remote for someone like me who does not drive.......and is used to living very central to shops.... tube ....etc.
Hugs Jayne
Happy belated birthday to Dean. Also, my 23 year old son drives a big rig like that.
