My angry face! I read an article in the newspaper yesterday. It is too long to post the whole thing but this will give you the basics:-
"Hospital chiefs want to ban Bibles from patients' bedsides in case they cause offence.
They believe the presence of the books - provided free in patients' lockers since the foundation of the Health Service - could upset non-Christians and break diversity and equality rules.
Managers also say the Bibles could play a role in spreading the MRSA superbug, a claim refuted by medical studies. They have even rejected an offer by Gideons International, the evangelical group which provides the Bibles, to make copies of the Koran and other holy scriptures available to any patient that asks for them.
The proposed ban, at the three main hospitals in Leicester, has provoked furious protests from Christian clerics and derision from leaders of other faiths. Professor Harminder Singh, of the Sikh Divine Fellowship said "In 30 years working with inter-faith groups this has never been an issue." Church of England hospital chaplains accused managers of neglecting their duty.
The is the latest indication that Christianity is now regarded as offensive in Left-wing and some official circles. It follows a trend to remove Christianity from Christmas which saw Birmingham rename the festive "Winterval" and job centres and the Red Cross ban trees and decorations.
I have only one thing to say to these Hospital chiefs -
Is it me, or has the World gone mad?!!!!!! What do you think, dear readers?

I read that and was disgusted. Yes, you are right, the world has gone mad.
you better get used to this Jeannette because people who contradict this claim are accused of prejudice against other cultures. Political correctness is a set of tyranical rules that compel everyone to avoid using words or behaviour that may upset others and you and I and millions of others have been denied celebrating christian festivals and stripped of our own identity and culture. We can no longer celebrate christmas like we used to in the hospital and have had to tone it down for the last couple of years and not say christmas but "the holidays".We could not have the traditional nativity play and its very likely you wont see Nathan in one as it would offend someone. Its madness, pure craziness and the politically correct army are actually making people seeth with rage and resent these stupid rules as no one who is sane would ever upset anyone of any faith, creed culture or ability because after all this is the whole point of religion to live in a world that accepts everyone regardless.I bet you people will say its me thats wrong but hey my view counts. . .doesnt it?
I agree Jeanette. I heard an interview on the radio yesterday with a 'high-up' muslim cleric, and he disagreed with removing Bibles from hospital bedside cabinets! He pointed out that muslims also believe the Bible is the word of God.
I think this country will be in BIG trouble if we do not encourage immigration of workers to help pay our pensions, but If we go abroad we are expected to comply with a country's laws, mores and religions, and the same should apply to vis here. We are a christian country, and if non christians are offended by this, or refuse to accept our culture they should not come.
This is madness Jeanette. The world has gone mad. -Krissy

You'll hate me for this comment -- but I agree with the chiefs. If the patients are Christian -- wouldn't they already have Bibles of their own?
You have to understand that this country is now being led by a man who claims to talk to Jesus. JC apparently told him to provoke a war in Iraq. And in my state of Kansas -- they are trying to ban science teachers from even mentioning the concept of evolution.
We're all creatures wondering where we came from and where we're going. The answers are not easy.
THE WORLD HAS GONE MAD!!!!
The World has gone completely mad. Who thinks up these things?
Having bible's available doesn't harm anyone, and brings comfort to many.
It's ridiculous. What on Earth will they think of next!

Yes, I agree with the majority...the world has gone mad!!

I totally agree. I couldn`t believe my ears when I heard this on the radio. This P.C. rubbish has to stop as it`s helping no one and causing problems left, right and centre. Ridiculous! :-)

THE WORLD HAS GONE MAD!!!! It is so scary where this world is going. *Louise*
It's Britain that has gone mad. I am taking a chance on being accused of racilism, as I have this to say. I have no problems with race, creed or colour. Every human being on this earth is equal. So why are our British traditions and culture, which have their roots in the mist of time, suddenly politically incorrect. We have our rights too, or should have.
Take care my friend.

Unbelievable...I agree; someone has gone mad! JaE
Yes Jeannette, the world has gone mad. First they take religion out of schools. They take it out of everything they can. What gets me though is why the minority should rule. Helen
The world has gone MAD. It seems to have snowballed after we took prayer out of school. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with a moment of silence for a prayer of your choice or if none was in your home just a moment to reflect? If I were in the hospital, I would appreciate having a bible close by - especially if I have a doctor who beleives in prayer with the medical. Now, I'm wondering when hotels will stop putting the bibles in the night stands?

it's a sign of the times. Very sad
Jeanette, Britain has gone crazy!!! Can you imagine an instant where a white, British, Christian living in Iraq, Iran or anywhere muslim basically would provide us with a church and a bible!!! I think not!!!! In some areas of the UAE you'd be thrown in jail for carrying a bible!!! I'm not particularly religious, but I am sick of being denied my culture and my country's religious beliefs just to appease those that decide they want to come and live here. If they don't like it and want to live in a muslim/hindu/sikh or whatever their religion is country, then why come here in the first place. When in Rome do as the Romans do! Otherwise, stay where you are that's my philosophy!!!! And Jeanette, if it's any consolation, you are not the only one thinking what you are!!!
Sue
Faith is such an important part of our heritage. I agree with completely that not allowing the Bible and other religious books, is absolutely wrong. Thank you for visiting my journal Jeannette.
I have to laugh at this I'm afraid - what a load of drivel and what a stupid idea. Surely if someone is ill in hospital more likely than not they shall turn to God and faith.......what a load of nonsense!!
It has gone mad! Our traditions and beliefs are being taken away...just because it may offend someone. School children here, can't salute the flag and recite the Pledge of Alegiance, because the word God is in it.
Very very very sad, I really hope people in Leicester kick up enough of a stink to prevent it happening elsewhere. I'm sure that if the presence of a bible offended anyone they could ask for it to be removed.
It was just a matter of time. Our founding fathers are probably rolling over in their graves. I hope and pray that this does not go through. God bless kelley
Stark raving bonkers!!! What all these starry-eyed dreamers fail to understand is that, instead of removing contentious inequities, this kind of thing has exactly the opposite effect - it actually creates conflict, and highlights differences! That's why, for instance, bigots from the CRE actually intensify racial polarisation - simply by alienating us all with ludicrous policies that only emphasise racial differences! The inevitable corollary to all this will be a right-wing backlash one day - far worse than anything that was there before!
David.
Oh that's CRAZY! When I used to travel frequently on business, I would always find a Gideon Bible in my hotel room. Often I would also find The Book of Mormon, Key Teachings of Buddism and others. I was never offended and found reading them an interesting diversion. It's a BOOK. Honestly...such a flap over nothing.
Hum....read about this hospital Bible thing in an e-mail. Seems they have no faith that the Lord can keep those who turn to His word from in old infection! - Barbara
Just a quick comment, sorry to sound alarmist but the Super bug (as with ALL germs) spreads easily from paper. Believe it or not paper is a great spreader of any contact spread disease and the biggest concern in hospitals where they are trying to fight the super bug is patients sharing newspapers etc. We have had 30 years of effective antibiotics and this has lulled us into a false sense of security, our generation and the ones after us know of few people who have lost limbs or dies through infection but as the antibiotics are now becoming ineffective we will all have to mend our ways. Remember years ago you couldn’t even sit on a patients bed in a hospital ward.
You are absolutely right of course. I stay in Scotland and I have to admit that it isn't too bad up here but last year the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh banned Chsristmas Cards as "it may offend non-Christians" and our Scottish Parliament leaders (Labour and Lib-Dem) banned Christmas and issued only Seasonal Greetings.
Scotland and Britain are supposed to be Christian countries and it isn't too long since we respected the Lord's Day. What annoys me is that those who complain the most came here knowing we are a Christian country. "When in Rome" was never more needed than now. b
You go to some other country with some other belief and you respect that belief and abide by their customs. You stay at home in your own country and you still have to abide by their customs.
Let us pray for a more Christian approach to life in our own country and banish the heathen from our midst.
I agree with you. How can it possibly hurt to have the Bible just sitting there? If there was a copy of the Koran sitting there, or some atheist/existential book, I wouldn't be offended. They should have a variety of reading materials, including the Bible, and then patients and visitors can choose whatever is the most meaningful to them.
Firstly, great journal. I'm new to it all, so mine isn't very adventurous. The world going mad? Oh yes! I put my thoughts down as poems, of sorts. Here's an example.....
Think Twice
Fighting over religion
What a waste of time and life.
Praying to unseen Gods
Seems to cause more wars and strife.
I do not question our souls live on,
Once we die and our bodies are gone.
Perhaps we meet our makers one day
And that will be the time to pray.
To look back and account for all our sins
To see our mistakes and our wrong doings.
Think twice dear folk before you kill
Because we were told this is against Gods will.
If cruel and unkind, we will pay the price.
If not while on earth,
Then in the next life.
