Animal Antics

Well, this is not the view from our window. We look out onto the garden but the rain certainly greeted us this morning after one of the warmest October days on record yesterday.  People were actually flocking to the beach!

Today I am posting a few more pictures that him indoors took.  The monkeys, which are my favourites, were not on display because they are building a big new enclosure/housing for them.  Because of the bird flu scare all the birds of prey were locked up as well.  A pity because he had hoped to get pictures of owls and hawks.  Even the ducks from the pond were being housed inside.  Still, it is nice to know that they are taking precautions, particularly as the first reported case of bird flu in the UK is in our county and not far distant from this particular place.

The first two were taken in the butterfly house.  Mike said he did not see very many butterflies but I think it was more that he did not spend enough time in there. You have to be patient -  but he had gone wearing a heavy coat because it was a chilly day outside and the camera lens kept steaming up in the high temperature needed to keep the butterflies alive.

The first one is a little out of focus but I still wanted to use it.

Mike did not have a pen and paper with him so was unable to take down the names of some of the different creatues . Therefore, we have no idea what variety of lizard this is.

Lastly for today

Mike was very impressed with the way the animals and birds are kept and he is very glad he came across Tropical Wings because it is going to be a wonderful place for Nathan and Daniel to visit especially as, at certain times of the day, children are given the opportunity to hold and touch various creatures and are given little talks about them.

I watched a very good programme last night about the London blitz and people recalling their memories of it. Very touching and moving.  It made me realise what my father must have gone through.  Before he was called up into the army he was an air raid warden and I know that he did pull people out of bombed buildings, some of them dead and that he continued to work in the City until military service.  He never liked to talk about the war and after watching the programme, I can understand why. I admire that generation so much, they withstood two world wars and the depression.  They were tough.

Hope you all have a good day.

Jeannette, I like zoos.  I know some people are against them, but I think they are wonderful educational tools if the animals are being taken care of properly.  From what I see at the place your hubby was at, they are very well cared for!  Linda

Lovely pictures yet again Jeannette.  My Dad was in the forces too he was the The Royal Corp. of Signals and operated a Morse Code Radio. He taught me when I had to learn it for the Girl Guides. Wonder what they thought we would use that for?  Have a good day Love Joan.

Beautiful flutterbies, and really like the peeling lizard. This will be a great place to visit with your Grandsons. I like watching programs about the World wars and the depression. Remember stories from my own Great Grandmother told about those days.  Hope you enjoy your day.     ~Deborah

Good Morning !  It's cold and wet here this morning.  We went from hot and sunny a few short weeks ago to cold and cloudy. It's such a drastic change that my mind is suffering from lack of daylight and sunshine.  My dad was in WWII and is just now beginning to talk about it.  He is still active in the Disabled American Vets.  He has suffered from schrappnel wounds all his life.  The men then and now that protect us are Heroes and Saints.  I love the graphic, even though it's not your street, it looks inviting .  'On Ya ' - ma

I saw that programme about the blitz last night too, it was very good wasn't it, very moving and quite shocking in places, to see and hear what they went through.

Look at those beautiful butterflies, such pretty colours.  Wasn`t the weather dreadful first thing this morning?  I`m so glad it stopped later on as it`s still very mild.  I didn`t realise that quarantine place was so near to you, how worrying, though it`s good to know that precautions are being taken. :-)

Those really are brilliant photos - Mike certainly has talent with the camera. And that place sounds idyllic for children - always useful to have places like that nearby, when the grandchildren descend on you!

Nice 'window' effect Jeanne! I hope I can find some of these myself when I'm putting an entry of my own in. I had a hard enough time getting my picture small enough for the
space allotted! lol I saw the same TV show-it was on PBS over here in the US. I enjoy
documentary's on PBS-I always' learn something new. The pictures came out very good,
I'm always glad to hear our critters are being taken care of properly.....Brava to Jim for making sure! We are suppose to have very mild weather tomorrow....unseasonably warm.
I'm glad, and welcome it. The trick & treaters will have a good night, without being
all bundled up, covering their costume. Halloween is a US tradition, right? Have a good
Sunday.....going to watch a Alfred Hitchcock movie~Diane~

Great pics - thanks for sharing them with us :-)  Love the window graphic.  I saw some of that blitz programme it is truely amazing what those people went through and came out of it smiling and carrying on!!

I too watched the programme and felt so moved by what they had to endure.  The noise and smaell, the constant danger.  I was shocked by the 2 firemen alone tackling that blaze in the small street full of book warehouse.  They must have been so frightened.
Your pics as per usual are wonderful.
Love Helen x
