Aspects of Autumn (2)

Another wonderfully warm October day here, with temperatures touching the seventies and a gentle breeze, tomorrow there will be rain but that will be no bad thing for the garden.

I love the colours of this time of year.  I remember collecting Acorns when I was a child, and playing in piles of golden, red and brown leaves, the wonderful crackle they made when they were dry and crumbled under the tread of your feet.  I remember the smell of bonfires when my father burnt the garden waste, cobwebs hung with dew, the nature table at school. Misty mornings and evenings, the smell of Autumn which is like no other.

There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots
may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on
the feelings, as now in October
.

- Nathaniel Hawthorne

In the garden, Autumn is, indeed the crowning glory of the year, bringing us the fruition of months of thought and care and toil. And at no season, safe perhaps in Daffodil time, do we get such superb  colour effects as from August to November.

-   Rose G. Kingsley, The Autumn Garden, 1905

Finally, I have Autumn in my home the whole year through. I have a mirrored picture. It never looks the same, the changing light of the day makes it different everytime you look at it.

Love the pics, especially your mirrored one....oh I remember my school's nature table......someone bought in some leaves one day but the had eggs on, add warmth from school heating and hey presto hundreds of creepy crawleys through assembly...you can imagine the resulting screams with over 100 primary school kids!!!!

I love all your pictures. Here in Miami that is something that we don't have the beautiful changes of the leaves. I love looking at all these wonderful changes that are happening everywhere except here.

Oh, I remember collecting acorns now too.  We collected baskets full of them, as if they were some special golden treasure worth millions of dollars or something!  We called it "acorn hunting"!

Beautiful pictures of the fall colors.  It is lovely!  I enjoyed the picture you have too - I used to have one in my living room that depicted fall, but over the years I got tired of it and replaced it with pictures of my family.  There are so many now with grandchildren and all that they take up the entire wall.  Have a Happy Monday !  ***BIG SMILE *** 'On Ya ' - ma

Ah yes Autumn.  You have such fond memories and especially of the sents of autymn.  I've not experienced much of what most folks call Autumn except twice, once out in New Mexico and Colorado and once in Upstate New York and New Hampshire.  All I can say is WOW!  Thank you for sharing Autumn with us.  Loved it.

These are lovely pictures Jeannette, the acorns close up are very effective.  The mirrored photo almost seems to have alife of its own.  I had a set of autumn photos to post including some close up funghi.  I lost the lot when Jim deleted the pics from the camera!  I`ll have to start again now. :-(
