I think this is the latest I have ever done an entry. As I am posting bird pictures that Mike took the other day, I think this graphic is just perfect.
The boys were over this afternoon. Nathan is exactly sixteen months old today. He loved our new fish tank, it was the first time he had seen it and stood entranced with his face pressed against it trying to catch the fish with a beaming smile on his face. He even drew his first ever "picture". He held the pen and even had a good idea how to use it, I only held his hand a little and he made some lovely squiggles. I should have scanned it but did not think and gave it to Becky to take home and show Dean so that he could see what his son had been up to.
I got some nice photos which I will post another time. In the meantime, here are some bird pictures that Mike took the other day.
We have no idea what this beautiful bird is, so if anybody does know will you please post in comments.
I think you will agree that the colours are stunning. The dogs have been so upset all evening as there are fireworks going on all around us even though it is raining and although it is now late. We can expect this for days now. It is upsetting to see them shivering and shaking and trying to get under the furniture to hide. Years ago, our vet did prescribe tranquilisers but that was when Bonfire night "celebrations" kept mostly to the 5th of November. Now that they are exploded up to two weeks in advance and a couple of weeks after, it is impossible. We also get them now at Christmas and New Year. You cannot drug dogs all the time. People are so inconsiderate these days. It is now eleven at night and there are explosions going on all around us and it is nothing unusual for us to hear them until 2a.m. I do not believe that fireworks should be available to the general public, there should be organised displays only.
Well, that is about all for today or I should say tonight. Hope you all had a good Saturday and I wish you a peaceful Sunday.

Thank you jeanette for your warm wishes. love those pictures!!
=) love, meg
the colours of the plumage on those pics is as you say stunning...Don't know what the first bird is though...We haven't had so much fireworks going off this year nor so late...they clamped down on it last year and the police will prosecute anyone setting them off late at nite :o) Caff xx
Lovely photo's Jeannette, so clear. We haven't had any probs yet with fireworks in our little village, I dread next week though. Maddy had her stitches out yesterday & has amazed us, she's looking so well and can hold her tail in the air again when she wags it. She doesn't need fireworks though, especially at her age, like your collies she trembles with fear. It's awful when you have to watch them suffer though isn't it? By the way, new laws say anyone caught lighting fireworks between 11pm and 8am will be prosecuted. Bet they will be doing the same to us smokers soon and confiscating our lighters and fags!! Enjoy your Sunday.

Hi Jeannette,
Second pic is of a Black Headed Caique,
Third pic is of a White Bellied Caique,
Fourth pic is a Sun Conure.
The first one has gone out of my head though I'm afraid, if I think of it I'll be back.
All very beautiful photographs, thanks for sharing :)
Love the owl graphic, but then they are such wise and wonderful creatures......plus the photos are lovely, I can never seem to get that close....they always fly away, must be my perfume, LOL!
Beautiful photos! If your dog has a certain place he hides that isn't too near the TV, you might try a radio with soft music. It worked for my sister with her dogs when they were building a house near her and were using loud equiptment. She kept trying different stations until she found one the dogs liked. It settled them down most times. I would also write a letter to whom ever and complain. Maybe make a petition for everyone to sign.
Oh I have some very bad memories involving fireworks and firecrackers and my poor
dogs! You have them Nov. and we in July. Beautiful colors on the birds.~Diane~
Beautiful birds, gorgeous color and sparkling graphic. Very colourful entry. Looking forward to those photo's of the Grandsons. Hope those fireworks stop soon, so the dogs can relax. Sounds like you enjoyed the best part of your Saturday. Take care. ~Deborah
I love the owl graphic and the bird pics, Mike's a wonderful photographer. My friend usedto breed Black Headed Caiques and Sun Conures. I used to have two Azara Conures, very pretty birds. We have fireworks here till about 2am every saturday, it drives me mad. As you say, people are so inconsiderate these days. Jeannette.
Good Evening Jeannette, I see that someone else has told you what the colourful birds are and am sure you know the the first one is a male Snowy Owl. There is usually one in the outer islands but they are very rare and very beautiful.Love Joan.
They are superb photos
I'm back.. I *think* it's a White Cheeked Turaco. :)

Happy Halloween, Jeann-o! Came by to bring you some chocolates.
The photos are just beautiful of the birds...love the graphic of the owl...
So sorry for the fireworks upsetting the doggies...they would here too. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday...hugs,
Joyce
I love them all! The last little guy looks just like my Dufus. He is a wonderful pet and companion for me. Blessings, Penny
Those are beautiful. tell Mike thanks for taking those pictures and thank you for sharing them. The owl is pretty also. I'm sorry the fireworks are scaring your dogs. Hope it all ends soon. I too wish they were outlawed except for special places. We have a few around here at different times but it's the worse on New Years Eve and the Fourth of July. Helen
We get the fireworks here at the 4th of July and New Years - not much any other time. My critters don't mind them at all - beagles are very laid back dogs... I'm glad you got to spend some time with the little ones. I'll see some of mine at Thanksgiving but not before. 'On Ya' - ma
The birds are absolutely stunning Jeannette.

The photos are beautiful. I'm sorry I don't know any of them by name. Doesn't time fly? Nathan is 16 months old. This is the time when you will amass loads of great memories of all the little things he does. How I envy you having grandchildren. None of my two are married yet so it looks like I'll have a long wait before any children come along.
Love Joyce xxxx
Jeannette pictures of the birds are beautiful....and yes the colours are stunning.....I personally think fireworks should be banned - they scare pets out of there wits....they should be used only at organised firework displays...and in the right hands.....Ally
Jeammette.
I have, in England, been a keen birdwatcher for over 30 years. My wife cannot go out walking with me as much as I would like here to but, where the walking is easy, we still get out as much as we can.
Having said that, for I have not read your journal properly yet, I was bowled over with the pictures you have sent to the journal site.
I have used the Hometown site but wonder if I have not been doing it properly for there hase been no received comments that I know of.
I have found your journal by accident and what a wonderful site it is. Please carry on with it. I feel sure that I will want to visit again soon.
By for now.
John.
What beautiful birds Jeannette, I`ve no idea what that bird is but he is lovely. He looks rather like a beautifully plumed pigeon....though I think he might be offended at that...lol! How lovely that Nathan has drawn his first picture, perhaps you have a budding Picasso in the family! I didn`t get an alert for this entry...come on AOL!!!

Yes I think you should ,keep,Nathans picture ,Ive got some lovely swiggles in a book ,by my Grandchildren ,its nice to note down what they say and how they say it ,so when he starts to chat you will some gems to treasure ,lovely pics clever boy Mike as usual ,.............Jan xx
I do so agree with you about these damn fireworks - they're exploding all over the place outside as I write this now! Being found in possession of fireworks ought to be a criminal offence these days. The great British "public" has proved itself wholly irresponsible for long enough now - and it's high time fireworks were made illegal, unless used by licensed organisers of public displays - on November the 5th only!
David.
I love your tag!
Beautiful pictures of the birds!
Theresa
lovely photos Jeannette,so colourful too.No idea what they are called though.Mike takes such lovely shots!
Very pretty birds
Terrie
Fantastic shots - Mike's certainly got a good eye for a photo hasn't he?? I think i agree about the fireworks thing. In the wrong hands they can do a lot of damage so it might cut some nasty stuff out if it was organised!
I just thought you should know about a herbal remedy which has a calming yet cumulative effect on dogs. Our labrador Max used to suffer as yours clearly do so we also contacted the vets and he was initially prescribed Diazepan and ACP's which as you pointed out aren't something you can dose them on for the mammoth number of days that fireworks seem to run for. So we discussed other options with the vet and found Skullcap & Valarian to be fairly effective for the run up to Guy Fawkes with the bigger, stronger drugs on that day. The S&V seemed to build up a calming effect and we rarely needed the stronger medication.
Sadly Max is no longer with us and we now have a mad chocy labrador (Murphy) who wouldn't budge for a bomb!!!!
Hope this helps and good luck.

What beautiful pictures. Well done Mike.
My little one is also just 16 months. She has now got her own pencil case with triangular chunky pencils. We have bought her a scrap book so we can keep all her pictures together. Both my girls seem to be very keen on colouring and drawing.
Love Helen x
I agree absolutely with Jeannette! We have the same problem + someone local has a birthday in August so we get them then and of course midsummers eve and any other excuse. Some people have money to burn, literally, and the animals find it very upsetting.I think the time has come to ban them except for the 5th November so we can protect the animals by whatever means. It is very difficult for farms &smallholdings stables etc when we don't know in advance to expect them.

Tremendous photos of the birds. mark
