I have decided to run a little poll on here.
Having been directed by another journaller to read an entry written by Joe, I went over to have a look. He writes that all blogs are boring (he says it is tongue in cheek and yet I wonder...........)
There are many of us who put our hearts and souls into our blogs, many of us struggle with medical conditions, many of us do it to entertain other people as well as ourselves. I have certainly never written my own journal just for my family and I have never written it for a select circle of friends online. My own journal is public as you all know and can be read by anyone.
We can all choose to read a journal or not to read it, to put a journal on alerts or not. We can choose to comment or not. Nobody forces anyone to read a journal. They are not everyone's cup of tea. We all have free will.
When I read that, from his point of view, all blogs are boring, to be honest I was annoyed. Over-reacting? Maybe, but I know how much your journals mean to most of you. Our friend Linny, at the moment so ill, really struggled to keep her journal going even with health problems because she enjoyed reaching out to others.
Obviously I will post the link so that you can read his posting (you will have to scroll down a little) before you take part in this poll - if you wish to. If would be unfair if you had not read the article first, so please read it before you comment on here. Anyway, he is getting some free publicity so why should he mind? Not that he needs it in his position as you will see - for he programmes aol. journals main page.
So, dear readers, do you think blogs are boring? Do you think they are a waste of time? Do you think bloggers write for their own little clique of family/friends? Whatever your views on blogs I would be interested to hear. I am not just talking about my blog here. I am talking about blogs in general.
I will not be offended if you agree with him. I just thought itwould be very interesting to get the general opinion. Here is the link:-
Please leave your comments below. Thanks folks.

I read what you are referring to, yesterday also. I don't find the blogs I read to be boring. If they were, I wouldn't come back daily. It's great to see a view into others lives. It's his opinion and well, I find him boring so I won't go back! LOL
If his was the only blog then ,no Idont think id bother, what category do we fall into ......I cant decide wether we are big or little fish!as I explained to you earlier Jeannette Ive only been on line a couple of months But I avidly read the people on your list ,I havent yet plucked up enough courage to set up my own,Imay one day. Please ignore this man he doesnt deserve his job and keep up the good work
I find that reading other blogs not boring as i am naturally nosey and like to know what is going on in other peoples lives. I only started writing mine about 3 weeks ago and find it is a place to sound off if i want to and to tell what is happening in my life and for me its a diary that i can look back at specially as the kids are growing up so fast.

Interesting reading!! I think the all thing regarding blogs is that we are generally nosey and like to read about other peoples lives. My blog probably is boring but I don't essentially do it for other people. It's a place for me to recall things that have happened. That's what I think anyway!!
I read his comments yesterday and if I found blogs boring I would not do one & most certainly would not put other peoples on my alert list to read theirs. What other people do and think interest me. I love hearing from people in the US as well as other countries. I love everyone's pictures be it family, flowers, scenery, or their hobbies. Also if anyone has a health problem they can reach out to other people and ask for prayer.
His point of view offended me and I think he should have kept his opinion to himself. After all if a person does find blogs boring of course they don't have to read any of them. Humm, I just wonder if he is bored with his job and things were not going to suit him & he just wanted to vent a little. Helen
If it were not for the journals my life would be lonely. People have encouraged me in every way, from my artwork, enjoying that I care for a dog, and that I am struggling to be positive about life, despite my health. TV can not answer back. Because of peoples interest in others, as sense of community and fellowship transpires for people who would find it difficult to attend social events. People who are negative and downcast about people being social, are anti-social. I need uplifting communication with people. It makes me feel involved in something other than just myself.
Take care and God bless,

By calling blogs boring, he is basically stating that the writetr is boring. Hmph. Not everyone lives in Hollywood, cheats on their spouse or lives dangerously, or makes headlines. I'd rather have my boring little blog, and read every one else's boring little blogs. Why is he even the journal editor???

So all blogs are boring are they, Joe? I don't think so...if I found it boring,I wouldn't sit and think how I could make my entries entertaining..I also wouldn't sit and read others entries. As for mentioning Cliques..please., give me a break, anyway he only looks about 12, what does he know. Power to the Bloggers!

In my opinion Jeannette, blogs are definately NOT boring. Why would I read them if they bored me?! I can understand that blogging may not be everybodys cup of tea, but that's just a matter of taste. And there may well be blogs out there that I would find boring, but again, that's a matter of taste. I read so many, as do you, and others here in J-land, and they are all so different. I rarely come across two blogs in one day that mention the same things. I LOVE reading about people's days, seeing the pictures that people post, the funny journals, the serious journals. I think that J-land is a wonderful community, and feel I have made real friends here over the months. So no, a definate not boring vote from me!!

Have only started reading blogs lately and find some interesting and was thinking of starting my own, I would make them public, not for close friends and family as sometimes it is easier to tell a stranger things, as telling a loved one can hurt and you get different feedback
I just started my blog and I love it! Mine may be boring at times but I don't just do it for other people. I do it for me also. It gives me pleasure. It passes the time and takes my mine off my pain. Your blog is by far the LEAST boring! I love reading yours and others. The highlight of my day is blogs and finding new ones to read. Joe needs a vacation!
I shouldn't take what Joe says seriously Janette, it is how he earns his living after all and he HAS to read all of them. He is just having a serious case of 'fed up with working' syndrome and thrown his toys out of his pram. Please don't get put off from doing your journal, Joe is well out-numbered by those of us who enjoy reading it.
From Pamwas22.
PLEASE IGNORE JOE BLOG GS
I find your blog NOT boring, by the way. I commented on John's post earlier and decided to write my own opinion about boring blahblah blogs ... http://journals.aol.com/gullspirit/PerishTheThought/
Thank's for dropping by, Jeannette -- Keep on blogging!
I love blogs, love reading about other people and what they are up to. I think Joe needs to change jobs :) We read and write out of choice and free will, he has to read them, but don't think he should catergorise, and I think putting links to journals and then calling them boring is bang out of order.
I think Joe redeemed himself by saying that it was meant to be in fun...using the down side as meaning he knows how we all love blogs. I love them and have enjoyed meeting some of the nicest people in the world. It is very uplifting to know there is so much good going on out there when the daily news usually only tells us about the grief. Thanks for the reference to his site. I didn't even know it was there before. Hope you're having a great weekend !!! ' On Ya' - ma
I for one love to read blogs and meet new people pray for them when needed and hear about different parts of the world. I also love seeing pictures of peoples familys and the events they go to or their gardens ok I could go on and on but I also love to write in my own blog it helps me to vent sometimes and to share have a good day God bless kelley
I think Joe came back later specifying big blogs are boring, but the smaller type hold more interest, some days I ask why am I reading this stuff, then I just turn that alert off
~Julie
Jeannette,
I disagree with Joe's opinion. It's his job...he needs a vacation or a different job...or a case of male PMS.{{{We all have bad days.}}} LOL!
I enjoy reading journals and making friends. I like being able to log on and see journal alerts in the mailbox. We are all doing something we enjoy. Being able to share our daily lives, our family or things we find interesting...all from the comfort of our own homes.
I certainly can't agree with the statement that ALL blogs are boring. Sure, most blogs are filled only with insipid trivia from people's mundane lives - but actually, that's what can make them fascinating. Why? Because we all share the same trivia in our own lives - and we find it interesting to learn how others see things, and deal with things! We like to find out how we're doing, compared with other people. So - no. All blogs are not boring.
David.
Blogs are awesome, fun to read and fun to write.
I left him an invite to pop over to my place, if he is really bored and has time to waste. Keep smiling.
Sylvia xx
I love writing my journal. I started it to record what I do and think, for that time when I will not remember (which seems to be now!) and just to exercise my writing yearning. Not everything is going to appeal to everyone, this is the normal state of things. Of course every single one is worthwhile!!!

After reading Joe's article, I disagree. Journals are not boring. I think Journals are exactly what AOL intended them to be-a community of people reaching out to those with similar interests. To me, journals are extensions of the old message boards. I do think that if everyone were honest, though, they would admit that they are honestly and truly not just writing for themselves. If they were simply writing for themselves, counters would not be important, journal page designs would not matter, there wouldn't be featured journals of the week and probably we would still be writing journals in those old fashioned "marble" notebooks. I think Joe should stop biting the hand that feeds him (AOL and it millions of subscribers), and simply admit that journals are a way for us to reach out to each other. Bear in mind this is just one bloggers humble opinion. Oh, btw, I don't particularly care for that word "blog". It always makes me think of a word one is trying to say through a mouth full of food. Again, just my opinion. Susan
Oxford definition of journal 'a daily record of news and events of a personal nature, A DIARY' peoples lives are not boring, we extend to each other a friendship hand be it in happy or sad times through our 'diaries'. I've read his journal before, he is a talented young man but maybe he's missing the real point of journals for the majority of us. By the way I can't find Blog in the dictionary, maybe he was talking about them. Your journal is never boring Jeannette and neither are any of the others I have pleasure in reading. xx Rache
here is what I left in Joe's comments....
"funny, sarcastic, thought provoking entry, Joe! It was also a great way to solicit compliments on your looks....if that is really you! ;)
Funny how we see or hear our AOL acquaintances differently from what they actually look like or sound like.
FTR, "I" don't believe my blog to be boring, but then again it's main purpose is for my entertainment and posterity.....maybe it will explain much about me to my five children someday. I will confess I am amazed over the traffic i do get.....after all, how interesting can my circus life be?"
Laura
Certainly not boring, I write because I need to say how I feel, if ppl want to read it then fine if not then don't! Its good to read that you are not the only person with those feelings. Write on Jeannette.
I can see by the wealth of comments that I am not the only one who disagrees with Joe's position. I love reading journals and making friends through them. Little by little we come to know about each other and form a tightly knit group. Certainly, we are not all Caspar Milquetoast! I am enlightened and filled with wonder at all the personailities here...definitely NOT bored. Blessings, Penny
The blogs I read are NOT, for the most part, boring, or why would I read them? I am in love with many J-landers, and I need to read them regularly to keep my life exciting! I do realize, however, that my blog becomes so boring, I ignore it at times. but, I am totally okay with that. So, his article did not other me in the least...JAE
Hello again Jeannette !! I hope you and your family are having a great weekend. My family and I did a few fireworks tonight to celebrate. I have to say that I think Joe is wrong for saying blogs are boring. I think blogs such as yours, Linny's, Iris's and others are pretty great. A lot of people put their hearts and souls into their blogs so I think him saying it was a joke wasn't a joke at all. He should make an apology to those of us like you who put their hearts and souls into their writing for making such a comment....What do the writers of your journal have to say about this comment ?
Thanks again for commenting on my journal I appreciate it more than you know. Take care...
Hi Jeanette
I am fairly new to blogs and just have to let you know that i really enjoy reading your jots. You have a lovely family and i love your garden piccies and they're not at all boring!!! When i get home from work i pop on to your jots to relax and share your thoughts. Thank you for letting me share your world ,keep up the good work!! As for Joe why is he reading blogs he doesn,t like?
Christine
I know I`m late reading this but better late than never. I have one thing to say and that`s if Joe thinks all blogs are boring, he must have read the lot....and I doubt that! Of course, those of us that matter all know they are great entertainment. We`ll blog till we drop...! lolol ;-)
Sandra xxxxx
Your journal could never be boring Jeannette.I think its a matter of taste, like choosing a book? Theres something out there for everybody in journal land.
I don't think blogs are boring. Would I spend hours each day reading them if they were BORING? I think not!!
Well if blogs are boring then I'm a boring person, because I look forward to my journal reading time every day! To be honest it's usually the highlight of my day! There are so many different types of journals and blogs out there, and you just have to find the ones that match with your own interests.
Journals/blogs are never boring by the friends I have listed and chat with...that speaks volumes!
Joyce
Well, I saw your journal on Magic smoke and thought I'd let ya know what I think. Journals/blogs are fun as far as I see it. I love reading the ones I have on my other journals and the ones I get alerts from. #1. I type for myself. I have 4 kids and need to vent from time to time about life in general. #2. I don't know who others type for, but I type for friends, family and anyone who would be interested in what I type. So, I don't think journals/blogs are boring I enjoy reading them. And I don't think it's a waste of time either. I enjoyed your journal as well.
