We had the much needed rain yesterday and again overnight although it is brightening up now and the sun is trying to peep through between showers.
We are so glad for our neighbours, Margaret and Brian, that people still braved the weather to see their beautiful garden - such is its reputation.
They do not have a huge plot. It only measures seventy-six feet by seventy feet. It is what they have done with it. It really is a paradise. Because of the lay-out, it was impossible for Mike to get a shot of the whole garden in one go - instead he had to take "scenes". Everywhere you come across little arbors, hidden seats, ornaments. They have water features, an aviary, arches and pergolas. It has taken many years to establish and requires a lot of hard work to be kept weed free but it is a labour of love for them and they have raised so much money for the local hospice.
I promised I would show you some pictures. Mike took around fifty and it has been very hard to pick which ones to put on here. I shall probably add a couple more another time - close-ups of little corners.
How they manage to keep it like this with two Lurcher dogs amazes me!
You can see the rain hitting the water on this one. It was quite misty as well.
Notice the Hostas. Not a mark on them, no sign of snail damage. Even with copper strips around the tubs which are supposed to deter them, mine look like lace curtains!
The last picture I have chosen is taken in their conservatory and shows that their houseplants are every bit as good as their garden plants. How wonderful it must be to sit there and look out onto scenery like this.
They are to be applauded for all the work they do for charity and for creating something as wonderful as this for so many others to share. Would I like a garden like this? You bet. However, I would not like the work involved so Mike and I are happy with our own small efforts.
We are having Nathan today as Becky has appointments to keep, one of them being the specialist. As it is too wet for Nathan to play outside, he is certainly going to keep us on our toes as he is into that touching and picking up everything stage.
Have a good week everyone!

another wonderful garden scene, or rather scenes! Ihave put out every conceivable continer in which to collect the rain water, in addition to the four butts. Glad for your neighbours: indeed, why should people be scared of a drop of rain: the world is desperate for water - unless it comes in the flooding variety.
Hello jeannette hun, Get up off floor, no need to faint lol, i still pop in to read, even if i dont comment or even update my own journal, i still keep up! You always have beautiful pics in your entries, and i am sooooooooo envious of this garden! one day i wish, one day, mine at the moment stretches to couple of windowboxes, a few pots and couple lavender pots on my balcony............

I am in awe! That garden is so beautiful it doesn't seem real! The hours and hours of work that went into it are obvious! Thank you for sharing the photos! Linda
Glad you all finally got that much needed rain. Those gardens are picture perfect. Thanks for sharing them. Helen
Stunning doesn't seem an appropriate word Jeannette, it's breathtaking, how I'd love that garden, the care taken.......it's a labour of love ain't it. Thanks for showing them I can imagine you had a hard time choosing which picture. xxRache
Oh what a beautiful garden! I have never seen one as nice as that.I thought yours was fabulous(and it is) but Margaret and Brians is stunning. Please tell them thank you for letting us have a peep and thank you to you for putting the photos on.
Oh, how beautiful!!! Thank you so much for these pictures! JAE
that is one amazing garden, no wonder people come to see it!!!
WOW, my dream has always been to have a backyard that looks similiar...even half or one third of their garden would make me happy. I had a portion of it tilled a couple years ago and planted thousands of wildflower seeds. They bloomed beautifully one summer and then the dandelions and other weeds took over. So now I just mow the whole yard and I guess you could say I gave up.
What a fabulous garden! However do they manage to keep it do nice with their two dogs? I have enough trouble with one in our own poor excuse for a garden! Thanks so much for sharing these photos Jeannette, and I`m so pleased that your neighbours have raised so much for the hospice. I do hope everything goes well for Becky at her appointment, I`ll be thinking of her.

Absolutely stunning Jeannette, if I had a garden like that I would be out in it every moment of every day! As you said, it must be a full time job keeping it looking this way, but for people that have that energy and time, it must certainly be worth it! Just lovely :o)
Have fun with Nathan, and I hope that Becky's appointments go well.

OH I JUST LOVE THIER GARDEN!! Those pics are worthy of post cards I think lol.. they could sell them to the visitors " )
We are about to move into a new house where our grass is bare, I can not imagin it ever looking as grand as this garden... but I can dream : )
Good evening....Their garden is quite nice but your garden I find is a little more beautiful. I like the pictures of your garden. I like how you showed how an impressionist painter would see your garden. I find that your garden has its own unique beauties that would make anyone want to drop by and see it for themselves. Your neighbors garden has its own beauty but your garden is a jewel all its own. I wouldn't mind seeing your garden up close and personal I think that would be something to see. I like the colors in your garden as well. Seeing the pictures of your garden are always wonderful. You show how much you love your garden by all that your garden offers.
Whoaaa! What a garden! Jeanette, I would love to stroll around your neighborhood anytime if you guys have these breathtaking gardens. I might just move next door to you all. http://journals.aol.com/dcmeyer420/DearDiary/entries/1511

Your neighbors yard is gorgeous. Can't imagine the hours it takes, to keep it looking like this. Hope the specialist is able to help Becky. Take care. ~Deborah
